The table retains most of the original gilding, photo four shows a corner of the tabletop revealing itself during the restoration process. The house, with the table shown in situ, was also photographed for Country Life on the 12th of December, 1952.

On show at 26 Bruton Street, a charming George II walnut wing chair - needlework and chair English, circa 1740.

It is rare to find wing chairs upholstered in needlework both inside and out, especially when its condition is as well preserved as on this example.

Very similar needlework can be found on a wing chair formerly in the celebrated Percival Griffiths Collection and now in the Met Museum in New York, as part of the Untermyer bequest.

A magnificent Queen Anne giltwood and gilt-metal chandelier, attributed to the Pelletier workshop - English, circa 1705.

Formerly in the collections of Doris Duke and Redburn Antiques, it is now on show at 26 Bruton Street.

Early gesso furnishings such as this, conceived in the latest fashion and copying the court of Louis XIV and his newly built palace at Versailles, were reserved for the very highest levels of aristocracy and royalty.

The great delicacy of these expensive and luxurious items has served only to enhance their appeal and exclusivity over the centuries and up to the present day.
