Our Avo 50 Ambassador Steven Abbiss was at Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Friday, lighting Fat Boy Slim’s packed show on the Main Stage.

Fat Boy Slim kicked off the festival as the first night headliner, with Steven controlling the set with 2 X D7 consoles and 2 X TNPs.

It’s exactly the sort of environment the D7 is meant for: powerful enough for a high-impact headline show, but still compact enough to take on tour, share desk space and take to the festival circuit.

Well done on a great show Steven, it was a fantastic way to get the Big Weekend started.

Get ready to roll, we’re taking our time capsule back to the 80s.

It was the decade we introduced the milestone QM500-TD, bringing DSP processing to lighting control for the first time.

The fan favourite Rolacue was also introduced, giving LDs an easy way to roll to each cue.

Avolites was also bought by United Engineering Industries, which later became part of the Carlton group.

We’ve had an amazing time at Entech Roadshow in Sydney and Brisbane, two hugely successful shows with a fantastic turnout.

What made it extra special? Seeing so many of you getting involved with the Golden Console - lots of tokens collected and plenty of competition over both days.

At the stand, we’ve been showcasing the D3-110 and been holding demos throughout the day. A big highlight was our ambassador Ruben Laine delivering a brilliant talk - setting the tone and drawing a great crowd at the stand.

Next stop, we’re heading your way…
📍 Adelaide
📍 Melbourne
📍 Perth

If you’re joining us over the next few weeks, come by, say hello, and get involved!

Macky Mangasi Lighting
Lighting Designer/Director
Manila, Philippines

Welcome Macky Mangasi, our latest Avo50 Ambassador!

Macky has set the standard for lighting design in the Philippines entertainment industry, especially on the live music scene. He has been an advocate of Avolites consoles for 20 years, using them to light live music, events, international festivals and tours.

Macky uses a T3 for pre-programming and plotting shows, switching to consoles like the D7 and D9 to run the show itself.

Macky also shares his lighting knowledge with the next generation of lighting professionals wherever possible, taking part in seminars and workshops to talk about his experiences in the world of stage lighting.

Great to have you in the Avo50, Macky!

From station to stadium…with a console like the D7, you can even travel by train!

Avo50 ambassador Daniel Sipowicz took these great shots of his D7 tucked neatly in the luggage rack of the train, and hours later lighting an incredible stadium show.

Proof that if you’re looking for a powerful console that’s still portable enough for the road (or railway) the D7 is your answer.

As we gear up to our workshops and seminars at ABTT next month, we’re thinking back to Andy Webb’s fantastic lighting for last year’s Jack and the Beanstalk at the Festival Theatre in Malvern.

Andy used his own Avolites Tiger Touch II to prep, pre-vizz and program the show, ending up with over 300 cues on the desk.

An award-winning lighting designer who has been lighting pantos for 20 years, this was Andy’s first run at Jack and the Beanstalk, resulting in a lighting design packed full of visual action, fun and colour.

Andy commented after the show: “Fundamental to everything in panto is the storytelling. Making big visual contrasts is a key, as is embracing all elements of the drama!”

Are you coming to ABTT next month? Avolites will be hosting workshops, seminars and training sessions over both days, including hands-on Tital training and our “Avo 50 and beyond” seminar, where we’ll be showing how Avolites supports theatre past, present and future.

Congratulations to 'AvoStar' Camila, the first recipient of our new award celebrating colleagues who make an exceptional impact to Avolites by “changing the game” in a way that is outside of their day-to-day.

Camila rocked up one morning with a bespoke test tool she had developed, designed for testing our consoles' internal wiring looms. It was so successful at improving quality and efficiency, we now use it extensively within our London based factory.
