Play is a universal human need, but it isn’t always accessible.

In architecture, we often celebrate the geometry of the past, the way brick and metal define a space for exploration. But for children with neurodiverse needs, a standard playground can often be a place of sensory barriers rather than a sanctuary.

As we move through World Autism Acceptance Month, we are supporting ASCD Sf. Andrei Gura Humorului. They are on a mission to build a therapeutic outdoor environment for their inclusive kindergarten, which has grown from 4 to over 20 children in just one year.

VATRAA believes architecture must be a source of wellbeing. This space is more than a playground, it is a vital therapeutic tool designed for emotional regulation, sensory integration, and social inclusion.

The land is ready. Now they need your help to build it.

The garden pavers were fully reused and relaid in a new pattern. Together with the loft slates and the extension’s stained brick, they establish a cohesive whole, an approach rooted in context and attentive to the existing environment.

House CSA

To revive a traditional plaster technique, we worked with a texured lime-based mix, a finish once present in interwar modernist architecture. The resulted texture can often be seen on Romantic-style houses in Bucharest.

Cast in-situ detail diverting water away from the timber-framed windows.
The concrete crease reads as both line and shadow, while terracotta tones blend with the seasonal colours of the surrounding trees.

Bespoke bed and bedside table in solid oak.

Designed uniquely for this project in close collaboration with the homeowner, the freestanding furniture pieces are crafted from solid oak. They complement the raw finishes: concrete floors and plaster walls, while bringing material continuity and coherence down to the level of detail.

A home for book lovers

Reconnecting with old passions, the homeowner returns daily to the library as the heart of the home. The first thing you notice is the smell: layering of old paper, timber, smoke and time. The collection ranges from 18th-century economic treatises to contemporary science fiction, each volume carrying traces of its former life. Sitting in the library, the rest of the world feels far away.
