Salomat.Ikat Salomat Ikat is a social, ethical enterprise which supports women artisans from Tajikistan.

The mission of Salomat Ikat is to introduce to the Europe, USA and Canada fair-trade and ethically made handicrafts produced by women artisans and designers in Tajikistan. Some of the products will be designed and/or co-designed by me, as well. By doing this we are supporting and encouraging women in Tajikistan to expand their businesses, gain in confidence and become economically independent.

Having spent time in Tajikistan supporting and developing women entrepreneurs I realized how challenging it is for Tajik women to open a business, expand it and to have equal access to finance with men. Women in Tajikistan also often lack support and encouragement in opening a business, whilst also facing a society which doesn’t accept that such an activity is a woman’s role (you can read more on this topic in my blogs).

We will also be contributing a percentage of our profits to a wonderful Tajik charity – SiDa is an organization established by parents in Tajikistan who have children with Down Syndrome. The organization supports families and children, and works with other services in Tajikistan to promote the inclusion of people with Down Syndrome across society.
