Things I’m loving this month and this one is a Norfolk summer edition...

Houghton Hall and Gardens
One of my favourite places in Norfolk, full stop. The contemporary art exhibitions are always worth the visit — this year’s is particularly good — and the children treat it like a treasure hunt, which is exactly the right way to experience it. The gardens are endlessly inspiring, and somehow I’ve managed to pass that on to the boys too. The interiors are next level. Every time I go, I find something new.

Pensthorpe
What I love about Pensthorpe is the feeling of being completely surrounded by nature. The children wander, there are playgrounds inside and out, and this summer they added a maze and extra activities. It’s one of those rare places that genuinely works for adults and children at the same time, rather than just tolerating one for the sake of the other.

Holkham
Holkham feels like a home from home. We come every summer without question. This year my seven-year-old braved the high ropes, we picnicked, rode bikes, and I even managed a run on my own — which felt like a small miracle. The kind of place that gives everyone exactly what they need from a day out.

BeWILDerwood Norfolk - Magical family fun
BeWILDerwood gets me every time, and it’s because of the detail. Everything is made from wood, there are little houses for magical creatures, and my four-year-old and I spent a long time debating why the creatures never come out in the daytime. We climbed everything, braved the big slides, and I left genuinely charmed. It doesn’t feel commercialised or contrived — and that is a real achievement for what is, fundamentally, a children’s amusement park. The thought and care in it is quietly extraordinary.

This is the reality of a renovation in progress...

I talk about flow every single day and help people understand why their spaces feel chaotic and how to fix it.

And right now, I am living in the middle of exactly that.

It’s a good reminder that good design isn’t about having it all figured out.

It’s about knowing what you’re working towards and being patient with the messy middle of getting there.

A period home in Berkhamsted that was full of character, but not quite working for the family living in it.

When this client moved from North London with two young children, she fell for the charm of the house immediately, but character doesn’t always equal function...

The layout was cramped, storage was limited and the home wasn’t supporting the rhythm of daily family life the way it needed to.

She had a strong sense of her own style and a clear instinct for what the house could become. What she didn’t have was the time or the headspace to bring it all together.

That’s exactly the point at which we started working together.

We rethought the entire ground floor, including a considered extension, working through concept design, photorealistic renders and a 3D model before anything was committed to so she could see it clearly before a single decision was made on site.

From there, we sourced every finish, fitting and piece of furniture, and stayed alongside her throughout the build.

The result is a home with better light, clearer sight lines, defined zones for how the family actually lives, and storage that does its job without making itself known.

The character that drew her to the house in the first place is still entirely there...

It just works now.

This family were on the verge of moving...

Not because they didn’t love the house, but because it had stopped working for the life they were actually living.

The kitchen felt tight, the dining room had quietly become a playroom without anyone deciding that was what it was for and by the time the children were in bed, there was nowhere to properly exhale.

They knew they loved the area and they knew they loved the bones of the house, but what they needed was someone to help them see what it could actually be before they committed to anything.

That’s where Vision begins... with the right questions (not with a mood board or a colour palette)

How do you move through this space every day?
Where does the friction build up?
How do you want to feel in the rooms you spend the most time in?
What does this house need to do for your family that it isn’t doing right now?

From there we mapped out multiple layout options and worked through detailed photorealistic renders so they could see the future of their home clearly before a single decision was made on site.

The result was a layout that finally made sense with the dining brought into the kitchen, a proper playroom and a living room that actually invites you to sit down and exhale.

Eade Road

When Sophia and Lee came to us, their home had one major problem...

No functional family bathroom.

The bath was unusable and the separate shower room had become a full time storage solution.

And like many of our clients, they didn’t have the time (or headspace) to solve it alone, with them balancing full-time jobs, a toddler and a baby on the way.

That’s where Make My House Home came in...

Vision: we started with layout changes and photorealistic visuals that helped them see the potential, without second-guessing a single decision.

Curate: we sourced every finish and fitting to make the space work hard and look beautiful.

Deliver: we managed the renovation from start to finish, from trades to timelines to finishing details, so they could stay focused on their busy life.

This was a fast-paced but deeply rewarding project, turning this neglected space into a place of everyday comfort and calm...

A space that Sophia can finally enjoy, because a relaxing place to unwind and take a long soak in the bath is definitely an absolute necessity with a newborn right?

There’s a version of interior design that’s really just one person’s aesthetic, applied to everyone who hires them.

The homes look beautiful, but they all look a little bit the same.

I’ve never been able to work like that and honestly, I wouldn’t want to.

Because the most interesting thing about this work isn’t the design. it’s the person behind the brief...

Understanding how they actually live, what they need a space to do for them, how they want to feel when they walk through the door at the end of a long day.

Get that right and the design follows.

It has to, because it’s built around something real.

My clients don’t get handed my taste.

They get handed something that’s unmistakably theirs.

Everyone says they want a home that feels right, but what does that actually mean?

It is one of the first questions I ask every client.

Not what do you want it to look like, but how do you want to feel when you are in it.

One client told me he wanted to feel energised, so I asked him where he felt most energised in his life...

He talked about travelling, about markets and bazaars, about being surrounded by colour and noise and life.

He ended up with a red kitchen.

Not because red kitchens are on trend or because it was the obvious choice, but because when you trace the feeling back to its source, the right decision often becomes surprisingly clear.

That is what Function, Flow and Feeling means in practice.

It’s not a formula. It is a conversation and it is where every project I work on begins.

The brief for this project wasn’t a complete style overhaul, or a Wishlist of finishes...

It was just a home that needed to work properly for two adults, two small children, and the reality of daily life with both.

The back of the house was opened up entirely with the kitchen, dining and garden view brought into one connected space.

The living room used to open straight into the kitchen. We closed it back up, new floor, fresh paint, and its own identity as a room, not a walkway

Everyone thinks they need a bigger kitchen. This one runs a full-size fridge freezer, a larder cupboard, double oven, induction hob, dishwasher, double bins and deep pan drawers — all from one run, plus the island. The other side of this kitchen is just storage. This is where everything happens

The garden was landscaped so the patio runs straight out from the new kitchen doors giving extra space for the children that doesn’t come at the expense of the adults.

Leaving them with a home that works for everyone, all at once.

Finally making their house, home

After having a home that had been half-finished for years (you know, one of those projects that kept getting pushed back, always almost ready to tackle) becoming pregnant gave them the deadline they needed to finally finish.

My clients have a strong sense of style with years of collected pieces they love, so the brief wasn’t to start from scratch, it was to honour what they already had and find the thread running through it, helping them finish what they’d started.

We needed space for a new baby and room for visitors to stay and with a tight budget to work within, our approach had to be clear and considered.

We visualised the whole home first, every space, so my clients could see exactly what was possible and in what order.

Seeing it before investing in it was the thing that unlocked everything as it took away the guesswork out and gave them both confidence.
