I've discovered a new way to patinate brass! It took me ages previously, hand-rubbing every single one. Now I've worked out I can use two stages of ultrasonic baths - one to degrease and one to patinate and then a maize dryer to dry! The drying bit actually was really critical, as often we had water marks - this now completely dries the part really quickly! A more consistent result for hand patination!

There aren't nearly enough genuinely British manufacturers. Please support us and support local labour and suppliers. I look forward to bringing much of the same to Ireland in the near future. Locally made is the way it should be.

Do you do continuous improvement? I think most do to some degree without relaising there is a name for it. We do projects just like this one every week. This is about providing visual control to our anodising line so that someone can clearly see when anodising is complete. We will be adding these to the other 3 tanks in the next couple of weeks

How do we make a light that is IP68 - yet has fully replacable parts? It starts with accuracy on the machined parts - thats where the lathe and inspection kit work beautfilly together. The lights are hand assembled and have a double seal on every single surface. These are then tested for 72 hours in an underwater test tank before leaving us.

CNC machining - from 3D printed prototype to the turned aluminium part. This will form part of the overmoulding machine for our garden lighting assembly. I'll show more about that machine in further videos.

Technically, we have actually been manufacturing in Ireland for the last year - just at a really basic low level - additive manufacturing AKA 3D printing. And in this case it's been ducting fittings. I can't wait until we are doing everything there like we do in the UK.

Manufacturing in Ireland isn't quite going to plan. It doesn't look like we will be making lights there quite by Mid august now. Unless we find somewhere else or some miricle happens with plannning - which I am pretty sure it can't due to regulations around needing 8 weeks. Ah well, we will get there eventually. Only been planning for a year so far, so whats a few more months.
