It started at one of my design retreats in Santa Monica.
Bridget Koch came with her mother and sisters for a long weekend, and by the time they left clutching their moodboards, we had become fast friends. On the way out the door, Bridget announced that it would be more fun if we did her new house together. The house happened to be Bunny Mellon’s Cape Cod beach house.
The structure was far more understated than I had expected. Private, discreet, comfortable, and completely unpretentious. I loved it immediately.
The living room in my Moroccan Stripe in Silvertree and Abu in Cream, with two-tone Solway sheers at the windows. The guest bedroom canopy and bedding in Greta Reverse Green. The bathroom wallpapered to match. The red painted floor Bridget’s own idea, inspired by my retreat. The original kitchen left absolutely untouched.
The greatest compliment came from a former member of Bunny’s staff who had spent years at the house. She looked around and said: “Mrs. Mellon would have approved of this.”
Comment BUNNY and I’ll send you the links to the fabric featured in this project.
