Yup, we’re going 🔙….way back! It’s like I’ve pressed the rewind button ⏪ and gone back to the noughties 0️⃣0️⃣ when me and my family would visit Blue Ginger, Harrow. I just remember it being one of the first Indian 🇮🇳 restaurants of its kind that had a pub like feel which was open to woman and kids….now we’re spoilt for choice.
RANDOM❓: why’s there always fish tank 🐠 in these place? 😂

ANYWAY, we were invited down to experience Blue Ginger in this era 😆. I’ll be honest, I (Roopal) hadn’t been for years before this, but my parents would always host their little adult gatherings there 🐱 🎉. Not only have BG revamped the menu, but also the decor. You can tell each area of the restaurant has been done up, so you’ll get a different vibe wherever you sit🪑.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐖𝐄 𝐀𝐓𝐄:
• Sev Papdi Chaat
• Methi Gota 👌🏽
• Garlic Chilli Mogo 😋
• Chinese Chilli Soya Strips 🌟🌱
• Chilli Garlic Paneer
• Crispy Corn-n-Spinach 👌🏽
• Honey Chilli Potatoes (not convinced)
• Schezwan Dhokla 🌟
• Chilli-garlic Naan

• Passion Island 🍹
• Mokito 🌿

𝐈𝐓’𝐒 𝐀 𝐘𝐀𝐘 ✅: Honestly, I was put off BG when I last visited 12 or so years ago, but so much has changed❗️Maybe they have new chefs 👨🏽‍🍳 but I’m putting it back on the map 🗺️ as the starters were decent! Don’t hold me to the mains because I haven’t tried them recently but we’ll be back to review them soon! 📝

𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: I had a little nose👃🏽 around and saw they have 2 private rooms. One’s slightly bigger than the other if you want to host a small event. I clearly have wedding 👰🏽‍♀️ brain looking at spaces for pre-wedding events 🫣.
𝐎𝐇 𝐀𝐍𝐃: they have a vegan 🌱, onion 🧅 & garlic 🧄 and spice 🌶️ FREE menu!

MAKAI METHI DHEBRA/VADA - 🟤🟤

Given I’m running on one less hour of sleep 😴, and just about to head out in the rain ☔️ I would love nothing more than to be sat on the sofa today with a plate of these with a mug of chai 😌.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted a recipe but I’m throwing it 🔙 to one of my favs I learnt from mum 👵🏽 during our first lockdown 🔒 together.

Love, P x

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃

130g cornmeal/maize flour
220g millet flour
160g wholewheat flour
400ml yoghurt (khatu dhai - see the picture)
Oil – for dough(5 tbsp) + for frying
* 1 tbsp jaggery
* 1 tsp carom seeds
* 1 tbsp lemon juice
* 2 tsp sesame seeds + more for top
* 2 tsp salt
* ½ tsp red chilli powder
* ½ tsp turmeric
* ½ tsp asafetida
* ½ tsp green chilli
* ½ tsp ginger
* 2 tbsp dried or fresh fenugreek leaves

𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐃 👩🏽‍🍳

1. Place all flour in a bowl 🥣

2. Place yoghurt in pan, on a low heat 🔥. Add all items with a * next to them into this. Some recipes won’t do this – but it allows some of the spices to heat through with the yoghurt gives them a stronger flavour. This shouldn’t be on the heat longer than 5-7 mins and it should never bubble ⚠️.

3. Add 5 tablespoons of oil to the flour bowl and mix 🥄

4. Now add the yoghurt mix. Bind. Ensure everything is binded well. Don’t over work the dough - it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

5. Like we all do, the dough needs to rest 🛌. Give it half an hour to recuperate.

6. Shape the debra in your hands 🙌🏽 – they’re about 5cm in radius and ¼ of a cm deep - place on plastic sheet, it’s easier to peel off. Top with sesame seeds and press them in. Some will come off when frying in the oil so add some more to compensate for that.

7. Heat oil in a pan used for frying in your house 🏡 – fill it up ¾ of the way, on a medium heat.

8. Whack in these bad boys, we fry around 7 at a time 👌🏽. They take around 5 mins, be sure to turn them over half way. Try with one first to make sure the temperature 🤒 is ok and you will be able to get a feel for how long this will take.

9. Place on a tissue once they are done so some of the oil can be absorbed.

10. Eat! 😋

𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖:

If I had £1 for every time a DM came in asking for an Indian afternoon tea 🇮🇳 recommendation 🤑. Here you go VHS family, the High Chai for you to celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend (if you haven’t forgotten)! 📅

We visited Masala Bowl to try their afternoon tea ☕️ and then some❗️
AND it definitely didn’t disappoint, especially the paneer tikka wrap!! 🌯 I don’t know how they make their Aachari Paneer but it is 🔥.

The chutneys went a long way especially when it came down to the Bombay Sandwich 🥪. BUT I have to say, everything was well presented and all of the items felt homely. The veggie 🌱 high chai is slightly more expensive than others in the area at £27.95pp but don’t worry, we were stuffed by the end of it 🤰🏽. BUT you may want to ask for a chai refill because it was 💯.

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐖𝐄 𝐀𝐓𝐄

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶:
• Paneer tikka 🌟
• Bombay sandwich 🥪
• Bhajia 😋
• Chaat 🌿
• Samosa 🔺
• Dessert selection
• CHAI ☕️ 💯

𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱!
• Pani puri 👌🏽
• Dahi puri - so good!! 🌟
• Aachari paneer tikka - star of the show! 🌟 🌟
• Pathra chaat - wasn’t convinced as it was missing the chaat crunch 😬

𝑾𝑯𝑨𝑻 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑵𝑬𝑬𝑫 :
• Red onion - 1 large🧅
• Olive oil - 1 tbsp🫒
• Salt - to taste🧂
• Pepper - to taste
• Balsamic vinegar - 1 tbsp
• Butter - 1.5 tbsp🧈
• Chestnut mushrooms - 600g🍄
• Garlic - 5 cloves🧄
• Fresh tarragon - 1tbsp
• Spinach - 260g🍃
• Roasted chestnuts - 75g (approx 8)🌰
• Walnuts - 25g
• Fine breadcrumbs - 3 tbsp🍞
• Nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
• Puff pastry
• Milk🥛

𝑴𝑬𝑻𝑯𝑶𝑫 :
1️⃣. Slice your red onion🧅 and cook in olive🫒 oil with a pinch of salt on a medium heat until soft. Add in balsamic vinegar and wait for the liquid to evaporate - then transfer to a large bowl🥣 to cool.
2️⃣. Finely chop in cubes your mushrooms🍄. It looks and sounds like a lot but just go with it! 👉🏽 In a pan, melt butter🧈 and sauté the mushrooms until the juices release. Add both your chopped garlic 🧄 and tarragon.
3️⃣. Once all the liquid has evaporated, add chopped spinach 🍃 in the pan. Wait for it to wilt and all the water to dry out (if you haven’t guessed, there should be no liquid 💦 so be patient ✋🏽). Now add in your chopped walnuts and chestnuts 🌰.
4️⃣. Transfer the mix to the onion bowl. Add breadcrumbs, salt 🧂, pepper and nutmeg. Let the mixture cool down. Preheat the oven to 190°C
5️⃣. Roll out your pastry (I bought the pre rolled one). Tightly pack your mixture in the middle like a sausage. Fold one side of the pastry over the mixture, brush milk🥛 to seal and then fold the other side of the pastry over - again brush milk. Use a fork 🍴 to press down the pastry so it is seal tightly. Now fold over the two longer ends and do the same thing again 🔄.
6️⃣. Turn your pastry over and with a knife 🔪 score a design. Brush milk 🥛 on top.
7️⃣. Put it in the oven 🔥 for around 30 minutes until golden ✨ and cooked on 190°C.

Am I late to this party? 🎉 I’ve told a few people about this place and their response has been - “yeah where have you been boo?” 👀.

On the day the Queen 👸 died, I said to my mum let’s go and celebrate life 👀. To be honest while she accompanied me for this reason, I really just wanted to try this pizza 🍕 place out and this was a great excuse 👏🏽. Not sure if that’s papa or not?? 🙊 The Google reviews are generally so high so I had to see what the fuss was about 🍕. I’ll apologise now for the picture quality - I wanted to enjoy my pizza!

I love ❤️ it, but for many different reasons. Great pizza, vegan cheese 🧀 offering to for those who need it, and an option of adding garlic 🧄 to my pizza? Yes pls 👋🏽. Please zoom in just to see how much garlic 👀. Chilli 🌶️ oil could hit a bit more but there’s always the option to add chillies to your pizza. But in all honesty I doubt you’ll be disappointed if you go but a word of warning ⚠️ - I’ve literally only tried the pizza 🍕 and nothing else! There were a lot of fried pizzas being ordered but that’s not for me 👎 but it seems to be popular 👀

It’s basic inside but has a homely feel, but quite honestly I just want my pizza 🍕 and I’m happy to leave so I don’t need anything that feels fancy.

Let me know if you try or even if I’m embarrassingly late to this place?

Love, Priya x

𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃 🍞 🧄 - my true love ❤️ - reposting this as so many of you have been asking where to find our recipes so a gentle reminder that you can find most of them in our Instagram guides!

Anyway, remember when TikTok was obsessed with garlic bread over lockdown? I vowed I would never buy a supermarket vertically sliced garlic bread baguette ever again, and I haven’t 👏🏽. That dead end slice of the baguette 🥖? Wishing there was more of that magical garlic butter 🧈? It’s a thing of the past for me.

You will ❤️ it, I promise!!! Love, P xoxo

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃

White bloomer 🍞 (mine was 400g)
8 garlic cloves 🧄 - as it roasts it becomes sweet 🤤
30g flat leaf parsley 🍃 (1 bag)
1 tsp salt 🧂
100g butter 🧈(salt or unsalted)
30g of hard cheese 🧀
Olive oil (optional)

𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐃

1. Preheat oven - 200 degrees Celsius fan
2. Take butter out of fridge to soften 🥄
3. Slide your bread 🍞 long ways
4. Blend parsley 🌿 inc stalks and cloves in a grinder, add a touch of olive oil as needed to help move it along
5. Add the garlic parsley mix to your butter 🧈 with the salt (adjust if you have salted butter) - taste!
6. Add the grated cheese 🧀 and mix in - this cheese in the pic is veggie from Sainsburys or you can use pre veggie grated pecorino from Tesco - you need a hard cheese similar to parmesan 🧀
7. Now cover the mix on your bread 🍞 end to end - it looks like a lot but it will get absorbed into the bread
8. Whack in the oven for 20 mins. It sounds long but the garlic roasts and goes sweet! 😋
9. Take out, slice 🔪, top with maybe some more cheese if you want 👀
10. Demolish and make sure you have some mints to hand cause your breath with be kickingggg 🦵🏼
