🎨 Just finished a new still life painting which, of course, features some fruit! For me, the luminosity of the jug and the shadows on the tablecloth really bring this scene to life. 🌟 What about you?

Still life paintings have stood the test of time. Why? Well, they offer a unique appeal by capturing the beauty of everyday objects, encouraging viewers to appreciate the simple yet profound details around them. This piece invites you to pause, reflect, and find joy in the small moments. πŸ‘βœ¨

With the Tories out and England still in ⚽️, this weekend feels good! And to brighten it up just a little bit more, here's a colourful carnation!

It has been a while since my last painting, but what better way to get back into the swing of things than with a luscious bloom and some gorgeous purply pinks? I hope you love this one as much as I do!

What other flowers would you like to see me paint?

I'm nearly at the end of the 30works30days art challenge, so I thought I'd share some of my submissions with you.

Some of the prompts have been really out there and have left me scratching my head, but some have readily lent themselves to one of my favourite subjects: food! These are all paintings done on mini canvases, though I've also submitted digital artworks, and in desperation (head could be scratched no further), photos, a limerick and a haiku!

Clockwise from top left:
Melting - day 3 prompt of "What brings you joy? Make a work by doing that". Warm, sunny days bring me joy, but day 3 was neither πŸ˜” So to evoke it in spirit, I painted a slightly melty ice lolly - the absolute best thing to eat whilst enjoying the sun!

Lime - day 6 prompt of "Be a beginner." When I first picked up coloured pencils again nearly 25 years post-GCSE, a lime wedge was the first thing I drew with the help of a tutorial. So, I decided to be a beginner again by painting that same lime wedge!

Radishes - day 17 prompt of "Make a work inspired by something in your fridge." A prompt I didn't even have to twist into food! I challenged myself to do this from start to finish in 20 minutes.

Cracked - day 9 prompt of "Take it apart and put it back together again." OK, it's a stretch to put an egg back together again, but the prompt made me think of Humpty Dumpty who, famously, couldn't be put together again, so eggs became the subject.

The Devil's Vegetable - day 12 prompt of "Hate It." A self-explanatory one here as this is a vegetable I loathe, and I will never understand how the taste and smell of cucumber is appealing to anyone! 🀒

Hello there, art lovers! It's been a few weeks, but never fear - I've been beavering away on some new work.

Right now, I'm in the middle of an art challenge called
30works30days where artists produce an artwork daily during April. The host sets a prompt each day, which you can follow or not, and you have to submit your work by midnight to stay in the challenge. The aim is a to encourage daily making, risk taking and experimentation.

I'm the kind of person who likes to ruminate and get things just right, so it's definitely a challenge to produce a work that's up to scratch in the given timeframe! However, it's good to be pushed and consider varying your (well, my!) practice to see what directions you might take things in.

Here's a piece I submitted yesterday for day 9. The prompt was "Try cheating today" so my cheat was that I'd actually started it before April, but I used yesterday's time to finish it.

There was no grand reason to choose a banana, but I'm on a banana bread train at the moment, so I think seeing all those bananas has had an influence. I liked the 'pose' of this one in particular and I guess I'm still excited we made it to spring, hence the colour!

Sometimes, you just need a decent biccie and a cuppa, right? Especially on a Monday. Well, here you go!

All hail the jammiest of dodgers! Don't you wish they came in this size? The only disadvantage is that they're rendered undunkable by puny regular-sized cups 🀨

Round canvasses can be a tricky thing: it's not always easy to work out a composition that will really take advantage of the shape, and then there are the perfect subjects. I like to have a small stock of round canvasses in my arsenal for just those moments - this is one of them!

If you're sitting down with a cuppa, why not head on over to my website? Today's the last day to bag your 15% discount on any purchase using code HELLO15

Spring is nearly here - and about time, too! I always associate lemons with spring, although I recently (ie today!) discovered the trees are evergreen and fruit four times a year. Am I the only one that didn't know that?!

As you know, I love painting food, so lemons were on my list of things to paint. This painting was helped along by an art challenge on Instagram which tend to either involve a word prompt or a picture that everyone participating tackles. They're great as you get to see multiple takes on the same subject, you might be presented with a subject you hadn't considered before, or you might get just the right picture of a subject that's on your 'to paint' list.

So this is my take on a picture art challenge. I stayed fairly true to the subject matter, but put my spin on the background which was originally a dark grey. Do you think it works?

A couple of people have asked me about gallery walls after I mentioned them in my last Facebook post, so here's a whistle stop tour:

The What - A gallery wall is a curated display of artworks, photographs, or prints arranged on a wall to create a visually cohesive and aesthetically pleasing ensemble. It involves combining various pieces, often in different sizes and frames, to form a dynamic and personalised focal point within a space.

The Why - It's a creative way to showcase a collection of art, reflecting your taste and style while adding depth and character to the overall decor of a room. A gallery wall looks great above a sofa! Plus, as you acquire more prints, you can extend the wall or swap pieces out - it'll always look the way you want it to!

The How - Start by selecting a theme or colour palette that resonates with your style or simply makes you happy - there are no hard and fast rules here! You might favour, say, bold botanicals (as I've shown), vibrant abstracts, or a mix of both. This will give a harmonious and curated look for your gallery. You may want an anchor piece as the focal point, arranging other prints around it, or just a pleasingly eclectic mix of pieces.

To work out your arrangement before hanging, lay out the prints (in their mounts and / or frames) on the floor first and rearrange until you like what you see. You could take a photo of the layout once you're happy so you don't forget what you opted for. Then you can begin hanging your prints at eye level - don't forget to step back and admire your gallery wall from different angles to ensure a balanced arrangement that tells a visual story.

Exciting Announcement - Welcome to Arensia Arts!

Hey everyone! I'm Kaz (or Karen to my family and old friends!), and I'm thrilled to introduce you to my passion project – Arensia Arts!

During the second lockdown in 2020, I found myself at a crossroads – more banana bread or something new? That's when I tentatively dipped my toes into the world of painting, and well, paintbrushes and I had quite the journey from being strangers to best buds!

I primarily specialise in creating acrylic paintings bursting with big colours. Flowers and food are my absolute favourites, but if it's colourful, cute, or quirky, they'll find their way to my canvas as well.

For most of my adult life, I've been in the charity sector, always feeling that something was missing. Last year, during some soul-searching moments, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted work that brought me joy, a sense of accomplishment, and, most importantly, the freedom to create. That's when Arensia Arts was born!

I'll be sharing my paintings and little snippets of my artistic journey here. I hope you enjoy exploring my creations as much as I enjoy bringing them to life.

Thank you for joining me on this exciting adventure with Arensia Arts! Feel free to share your thoughts, and let's make this space a vibrant hub of creativity! πŸš€πŸŒˆ
