I, alongside several wonderful interior designers, was asked by for this month's , to give some hints and tips on how to upscale your furnishings without breaking the bank.

The article is titled "How to upholster furniture without breaking the bank"

1. Felt rabbits on vintage fabric
2. Leftover velvet with border and herringbone stitching on an IKEA kallax bookshelf covered in fabric I cut wrong for a client job so needed to find a use for it
3. Very visible mending. The client wanted it to look this obvious
4. Vintage trim applied to curtain leading edges. This was supplied in three pieces, one of which wasn't long enough so we joined it carefully

I may have a few lampshades to make in the New Year, little ones for a wall. It is probably the only area of my work I could do abroad, so I am tempted to park my bum in another European and spend all my earnings on being elsewhere. It'll be porridge and baked beans when I return, but I think I'll be ok with that.

And if anyone wants to keep me out of the country for longer, please send me your spec for bespoke lampshades (small enough to fit several in a suitcase).

Tent Room Tuesday

It had been what Emma Burns of describes as ‘a dreary little box room on the top floor of a house in Chelsea’ —a dispiriting space with no architectural merit whatsoever. Her solution was to tent the walls with a black and white ticking stripe, suspended from a simple track all round the room, which could be opened or drawn closed across the windows.

For the ceiling, the fabric was paper-backed and applied in four segments whose joins were emphasised with green braid. The introduction of green—so essential here—came about via the serendipitous fact of a pair of green velvet headboards from a previous house, used here as ends to a single day-bed, and prompting the colour of the bindings to both the scalloped pelmet and the bed coverlet.

There’s an enviable air of improvisation about all this, albeit of a most sophisticated sort, in which an unpromising space was transformed into a room of tremendous chic. If, in the realms of interior decoration, one of the highest achievements is to produce something marvellous from practically nothing, then this room would be—without question—labelled ‘Exhibit A.’

Endlessly love making things with frills and even better when the people behind it are and .prin.art.

Step into my office. Very excited to share that I have written a piece for about why I decided to turn my spare bedroom into a room I actually use! I knew I needed a space to work, and for our seemingly endless amount of clothes. What I didn’t need was to dedicate an entire room in my house to hypothetical guests who stayed roughly twice a year. I knew I wanted a seating area so I tweaked a design from the lovely team at to create the perfect little day bed/sofa and I drafted in my long term collaborator .prin.art to create this incredibly sofa canopy using fabric from .temple - I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result! We are having a fabulous run of making bespoke lampshades here at Cocoon Home. It's the one item that we make where we get to sit down throughout most of the process rather than being stood on our feet all day. And the results are always satisfying as you know you've done it right before sending it to the client, unlike window furnishings where I whip myself into such a frenzy before any install, convinced I've measured and made everything wrong...

Bespoke kitchen seating designed by . Seat back and cushions made by us. Very lucky to have been asked to work on this home in the gorgeous seaside town of Southwold. I also picked up a few fab antiques there.
