An exceptional antique Edwardian solid silver table lighter, made in London in 1901 by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths. Ball-shaped and raised on three double scroll feet, it holds a central burner with three individual removable wands that draw up to light a cigar.

Which silver candlesticks are your favourite?

Sam shows us two pairs that couldn't be more different stylistically, but both beautiful in their own right. One pair dates back to 1764, full of Georgian character and history. The other is a striking Art Deco design by R.E. Stone, all clean lines and sculptural confidence. Two completely different eras of silver design, and both would sit beautifully in any interior, whether classic or contemporary.

Carol's pick of the week!

A magnificent Elizabeth II sterling silver covered bowl by Gerald Benney. This centrepiece features an elegant lightly hammered bowl with a deep open work cover cast with swirl designs culminating in two hearts, one open and the other with a deep green enamel base. The bowl functions with or without the cover and is both a function object and a sculptural piece in its own right.

John, 7th Baron Braboure (1924-2005);
By whom gifted to his wife The Countess Mountbatten of Burma on the occasion of their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

The inscription reads: To Patricia from John. On our 25th Wedding Anniversary. With all my love and admiration. Oct. 26th 1971

A truly exceptional piece available at Michael Sedler Antiques: a large Victorian silver-gilt figural trophy, marked by Robert Garrard II (Garrard & Co.), London, 1842.

The scene is depicts Robert the Bruce and the English knight Henry de Bohun locked in combat on horseback at the Battle of Bannockburn, Bruce with his sword raised aloft, de Bohun falling back, all set on a base chased to simulate grass.

Garrard, along with rivals Hunt & Roskell, made the great racing trophies of the day, Ascot, Goodwood, Doncaster, and this is a spectacular survivor of that tradition.
