I designed this apartment without ever meeting the client.
A few messages. A name. The fact that he was from South Africa and had chosen a flat on the 38th floor of a new development in Canary Wharf.
That was everything I had.
No mood board requests. No style references. Just — something beautiful. Something that feels like mine.
So I did what I always do when words run out. I listened to what wasn’t said.
Someone who chooses a high floor in a glass tower — but asks for warmth. Who comes from a continent of raw natural beauty — and now lives above a city of steel and light. Who says “unique” but means “real.”
I designed around that tension. Natural materials in a contemporary shell. Softness against the skyline. A home that holds you — even on the 38th floor.
He chose this concept out of three. Without hesitation.
When he finally saw the finished apartment, he sent a short message.
“The apartment looks very nice. Thank you for your work.”
From someone I had never met — that was everything.
