Finally got around to taking pics of Amelia’s new room 🥰
Bright, fun & full of colour! She loves having space to play with some toys up here now too. I think I might get a rug up here as I’m sure the carpet won’t stay this fresh looking for long 🙈

A fireplace hearth rip out and redo with Winklemans tiles, in Victorian Geometric entranceway floor fashion. Jobs like this always surprise me in how much there is to do and the range of materials necessary.
Once the rip out of the marble slab base was complete, the blown render was cleared away, and the the parts that weren’t damaged kept in place. I then used Ardex a46 repair motar and renderers mesh (to reinforce the mortar) to build the render level back up. The idea was to bring the hearth level up to the level of the hardwood floor and then lip the tiles over onto the floor as the wood had been poorly cut to the existing hearth slab. Once the base was secure I then set about getting the levels correct. The floor was not level from three sides and the back of the hearth by the brick was out of level by the inch not mm. I used BAL flex fibre S1 adhesive to fix the requisite Wedi boards cut to size and ensured full coverage. Then to finish, a flexible 2 part latex. 48hrs was allowed for everything to dry and fully cure, then return to tile.
The result is something of beauty. We may finish the edge with a small beading, possibly a matching colour mastic, or just leave it. The customer wishes to live with it for a short while and make a decision. This is not a bad way to go about these types of decisions. No rush, no fuss, it will get done one way or the other. Really enjoyed this one, and was surprisingly hard work 🥴
