As the days grow warmer, we’re dreaming of the stunning pool house at White Company founder Chrissie Rucker’s country house, designed by the ‘Queen of Serene’ Rose Uniacke. The calm palette and natural materials are in perfect harmony with the surrounding gardens.

This is the iconic ‘Lutyens Bench’ first designed by Imperial Arts-and-Crafts architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The bench is one of the most recognisable designs in modern furniture making history. At Ensemblier we also try to make original, distinct designs that are simultaneously beautiful and practical.

We wonder sometimes… which of our designs will be as iconic as the ‘Lutyens Bench’ in a century’s time?...

The Horbury Sofa is inspired by an elegant Edwardian squared-arm sofa where its deep edge is a perfect fit for elegant bolster cushions. We have gracefully kept its design in keeping with traditional methods by webbing the base rather than springs retaining a firmer seat that sits well within a more formal drawing room for comfortable upright seating.

Its fillings are composed of all the natural materials like its other Ensemblier counterparts but rather than loose fillings, the inside back and arms use rubberised hair allowing for a firmer seat.

Our Olympe Headboard is inspired by the French playwright and activist Olympe de Gouges. The timely shape is reminiscent of elegant Toile de Jouy boudoirs of 19th century France, and is highly versatile in its elegant form allowing subtlety when the fabric is stretched taut over the frame, or being more defined when there is a pipe or trim to accentuate the hipped shape.

INSPO. As furniture designers we are constantly drawing inspiration from the world around us, particularly from nature. Just as our craftsman transform raw, plain natural materials into beautiful, functional works of art, so we admire gardeners who bring order out of chaos and can transform even a rugged and arid Provencal landscape into something magical (as seen here in this garden, perched on a hilltop in Provence.

We are incredibly proud of our atelier ‘Coniston’ bed. This handcrafted piece is elegant in its design with a Georgian-inspired framework displaying the best of British craftsmanship. As a united piece of furniture, this can sit elegantly within the room, viewed from all angles.

The hand sprung base is compiled of loose horsehair stuffing to provide the ultimate in comfort and luxury whilst using natural fabrics. Traditional upholstery methods and materials, including using only the highest quality beech mortise and tenon frames, captures quintessential British design and exceptional attention to detail.

An iconic shot of an iconic pair of chairs in an iconic room. Our Montgomery Chair – pictured here flanking the fireplace in Ensemblier founder Tara Craig’s drawing room in Chelsea in a shoot for House & Garden - is inspired by an original 19th century nursing chair. The cushion has been changed for a fixed deep button back with sabre fronted front legs, and the seat is webbed with a horsehair squab cushion, and stitched arms. It’s a small chair… but it has a big personality!
