What better way to celebrate the Easter Sunday then a little round of applause for my Dutch Master's Trial.
▫️
Of course I decided to challenge myself and used the largest vessel at the course. And use colours that usually confuse me, that really soft palette, with grey lilac and pale yellows- but you know what, although there are some guys that I wished I'd peeled back a bit more, ultimately it was such a wonderful way to take my time and consider every stem. This is EXACTLY what I wanted from revisiting the craft, the art. It's not just business. It is design and craft.

Here's a few images for you to see the design process and a huge heartfelt enormous thanks to Emily for her wonderful process, and sharing that with us. And alllllll the babes from the last week, I miss you x

Some of the things you'll never hear me say. I'm a wedding and events florist based in Sussex, UK and I work truly seasonally. And there's just a few things that I think I have never and will never say.... But I guess they say, never say never.
▫️
I've been reflecting so much on what my dream weddings are, have been and will be. And a lot of it comes down to the fact that my clients and I are aligned. So this is a gentle tongue in cheek way of getting to know me a bit better.

If you have to think about what we would never hear you say, what would it be?

Wins and Fails. I'm starting to meant and practice more. Before I head for a week of, hopefully, being inspired and working with the season and truly learning to slow down and appreciate the art. My work requires slowness, in the design, in the brief, in it all and I find when I rush I cannot fathom the work I've created.. it feels so, lacking.
▫️
It's great to look back at photos in my storage to know that I have always taken mornings or days out to just practice. The poppies were bought for nothing in particular, the daffs and tulips were left overs. I charge for mock ups because the variety costs money, but ultimately if I continue to practice the mock ups won't be a space for learning but just a space for showing and expressing.

Do you like seeing behind the scenes work? Do you start to understand the methodology more? I'd love to know!

It's so easy to get swept up in the trends. I think everyone does it. Okay, you might not be watching The Weds Instagram every day, but you may be looking at close friends or family and how they've done their weddings. We all want to be portrayed or seen a certain way, and I'm here to say DON'T!
▫️
I've been lucky enough to be part of hundreds of weddings, and I know when the flowers or the overall design just doesn't suit the couple. Maybe the family are a little too involved, or maybe the idea of being seen as too boring or traditional worries them. But I just want to reiterate, you can create your wedding design for you, about you without following a trend set by.. some celebrity or the zeitgeist.
▫️
I've always wanted to design my way. But expressing my couples/ clients. I love a trend because it's fun and exciting, but I know how much we look back on obvious copycat design and think, 'hmm, I wish I had just gone for my favourites'.
▫️
What do you think? Do you push back on trends? Do you question the initial design brief? I'd love to know!

Yep, so much for my constant content. Here's a couple of weeks worth of bits from Paris, Plants and Pals. I managed to do 24 hrs in Paris with my sister & mam, a full mother's day weekend, a hen do in Hackney and a birthday party in Clapton amongst market trips, grower pick ups, deliveries, counselling and college AND dog walks. I'm zapped.
▫️
I go on the most exciting course in just over 2 weeks and I'm hoping to GOD I get some flowers content to fill my socials for weeks. And also, then the wedding season properly kicks off, so I will have way more flowery content than ever before.

Just going nuts for the Dreamer tulips this spring. They were like Peonies. Also s daffodils, which I will be making a whole reel about this week- STUN.

Between all the meetings, the proposals, the phonecalls, the quotes and all the designing.. somewhere along the line everything was taking way too long and I was working for free constantly, and I was working on proposals all the time from scratch each time. Then I realised, let me just use the packages I've designs and create a template just for the initial proposals!
▫️
Proposals can take hours. I didn't buy a template or have a pre-made one, I made my own. And now I can use it for the initial quote so if another florist aligns better with my clients values, I haven't wasted previous time creating a bespoke proposal. I have a five page maximum rule on the first proposal, after the first consultation. This saves me Hours and £££.
▫️
I wondered for past brides, brides/ people to be wedded, and other wedding vendors.. how have you been charged or how do you charge for your proposals? I would LOVE to know!

As most of you know I'm nearing just a few months until I am a qualified, bonified therapist. Recently, what's been coming up in my own personal therapy is the fact that my life has changed quite drastically in the last 6 months, huge, gigantic changes and it's meant I've not been able to take on as much work as I used to- and it's left me feeling useless.
▫️
Yes, I preach having your own space and time, and noticing burnout before you get there. And here I am preaching when I can't even feel good about myself when I have to take on less work, I get my validation from creating and making the business work.
▫️
So yep, this is a bit tongue in cheek. But comparisonitis gets to me- watching favourite (or really not-so-favourite) wedding suppliers saying,'I'm fully booked until 2028' seems so wild to me, and makes me think.. wait, how? I only take on two weddings a month and I still have space. I've been spending a lot of time on socials, thinking this will help drum up work but I think the hustle is ever present. And I'm okay with that. I guess, it's honest and that's what I want with my clients; transparency and honesty.. and a gorgeous brief to create your story.
