🧵🧵Connecting through Quilting🧵🧵

We are happy to share our finished piece of Artwork:

“Home is where the Heart is “

A testament of triumph and a celebration that demonstrates people connecting and finding ways of working together during a difficult time.

We followed in the footsteps of traditional quilt making- which was an artisan craft where women would connect and socialize in the making of a community quilt. The quilt didn’t just serve a practical, but also a social purpose of bringing people together.

The individual pieces have been sewn together into a collective Artwork which we will display at the Vineyard Community Centre, Pop up shop and other local venues. We hope you will come to see it !

Thank you to all the lovely ladies of Works of Love who contributed and to Susie B who led the project. Thank you Cornelia for teaching the ladies such wonderful skills 💝

Why learn to knit? Knitting has been shown to promote wellness by reducing stress, creating strong social bonds, and increasing your feelings of usefulness. The repetitive and rhythmic movements of knitting are often equated with meditation

🧵🧵Connecting through Quilting🧵🧵

This project follows in the footsteps of traditional quilt making- which was an artisan craft where women would connect and socialize in the making of a community quilt.

The quilt didn’t just serve a practical, but also a social purpose of bringing people together.

Although we cannot meet in person, working together on a group project from a distance unites people in a greater cause, whilst helping to alleviate boredom and loneliness.

The theme we have chosen for our quilt is

“Home is where the heart is”

The project will be led by Susie Batchelor one of our Works of Love participants and a qualified teacher.

Once the individual textiles squares are completed, they will be sewn into a collective artwork, which we are hoping can be displayed at the Vineyard Community Centre, Pop up shop and other local venues after lockdown is lifted.

The finished piece will be a testament of triumph, a celebration that demonstrates people connecting and finding ways of working together during a difficult time.

We will be posting photos as the work progresses !

Works of Love takes on Lockdown life!

We moved our popular workshops online with a boredom busting timetable to help boost morale and keep us connected with each other. These classes are jam packed with hints and tips to pick up new skills or brush up on old ones. They also provide a chance to catch up with news and exchange views without leaving the warmth and comfort of home.

Sewing with Cornelia:
This online class offers the opportunity to learn skills such as inserting zips and linings making button holes, french seams as well as designing and using patterns. The participants are making practical items such as cushions, bags, roman blinds and various handy pouches and cases for the home. Class members are also helping the Vineyard charity by making high quality items such as yoga bags to sell in the pop up shop.

Let’s face the music and dance:
We have been dancing away those winter blues with Pascalle

Knit and natter with Jennie:
The place to pick up knitting tips and have a good old chat. Subjects covered are pattern/ abbreviations reading and demonstrations of specialist techniques.

Mindfulness with Florence:
Focusing attention on present feelings and the world around. Mindfulness helps promote positive mental wellbeing.

Cookery with Zahida:
Whipping up delicious home cooked delights with one of the best cooks in town. Chocolate brownies, vegetable and cheese muffins, winter detox soup and a warm winter pudding are some of the tasty treats that have been made.

Yoga with Florence:
Exercises for the mind and body

Sensational Socks with Gilly
How to knit a mini sock and taking on the challenge of heal turns and kitchener stitch.

Delicious creations taught by Zahida ! What fun we’ve had cooking up some treats 😃
