A month ago I arrived in London for a magical week immersed in interior design. The cornerstone of my visit was , which granted exclusive BTS access to brands, factory tours, industry leaders, and peeks into new collections.
1-7: Events kicked off with cocktails hosted by at Voysey House, home of . How amazing is that art installation representing the screens used to print one of their multicolor designs? The next morning, a group of us returned to Voysey House to meet the creative team. We were invited into their extensive archive and compared current designs with the documents that inspired them. They showed us a collection being developed from recently-discovered William Morris sketches, and helped us make our own prints using Morris blocks from the archive.
8-13: On to for showroom open houses. At , I saw new collections and met founder Jules Cornell. At , we learned how their archives inspire new designs, and designer demonstrated how he uses GP&J Baker in his fresh interiors. There, I ran into , EIC of and host of their Trade Tales podcast. Later, led a panel with renowned designers , , and . The night ended with a formal dinner for 300.
14-16: Early the next day, I ventured to the countryside to tour . Their studio team shared how they create new designs, then we were escorted into the factory to learn about their operations, from mixing paint to running the printing press to QC to assembling their famed lampshades. SO impressive.
17-20: We finished out the day on the famed Pimlico Road. Between visiting showrooms, and devouring scones with clotted cream at , I met interior designer , author of a favorite design book featuring grand country homes. He discussed details from his projects and why he founded a new paint company. Our events concluded with a cocktail party, where we parted ways with new and old friends.
