We've got a rare job opportunity for an interior designer to join our team.

Urbanist Architecture is a small practice that combines architects, planners, urban designers and interior designers to provide a full service at an intimate scale.

Are you the person we're looking for?

Let's take it as a given that you've got both a great eye for design and a solid understanding of the practicalities of creating living and working spaces.

You'll know how to get the client want they want for a wide range of budgets, from super high-end to price-conscious homeowner or developer.

Skills-wise, you will be an experienced and confident ArchiCAD user.

Beyond that, though, you'll be someone who will enjoy the opportunity to work in a team where interior design doesn't feel siloed-off from all the other parts of creating somewhere appealing to live.

With us, you'll have the chance to be fully involved in everything we do and have your opinions heard in all parts of our design process.

You'll have a chance to work on listed buildings, on exciting new builds and fascinating conversions and imaginative refurbishments, on 40-unit projects as well as (very) individual homes.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Please apply today via our LinkedIn page.

(No recruitment agencies, please.)

In our latest blog post, we try to explain what on earth architects are on about if they use the term "BIM" and why the crushingly dull words "building information modelling" hide something that's both actually really exciting – your design springing to life almost like a computer game – and potentially incredibly useful. Imagine never having to try to explain where the pipes are to a plumber again, or being able to see with a few taps on your screen how your house looked before the extension was done…

That's the present (your design in movable realistic 3D) and the future (everything you'll ever need to know about a property in one accessible computer file) of BIM.

Read more about it…

Everything you need to know about BIM process and how BIM can simplify the way you design and build. Covering the benefits and advantages of BIM.

Has what we want from our homes changed during Covid-19? If you've been using your house or flat as an office, a classroom and a gym for all these months, has that permanently altered how you think about the place you live, its limitations and possibilities?

That's the question we tackle in our latest blog post.

Home Design after COVID19: Learn the new design trends and explore real examples to design your home for comfort, functionality and flexibility.

Planning Appeal win!

We're thrilled to announce that the Planning Inspectorate agreed with our claim that this smart pair of semi-detached homes represents an improvement on one cramped and dark existing house. For a very modest increase in footprint, the area will get double the available housing on the site, which in London has to be a good thing.

The land is designated as "Urban Open Space", but that was more a historical leftover than anything particular to a suburban house on a suburban street. We challenge anyone to walk past the current house and think it has anything to do with open space. We're so pleased that the inspector considered the reality of the situation, not just how it was described by the council, and backed our latest contribution to London's housing supply…

The pandemic has triggered a reappraisal of urban living, with increasing numbers fleeing city confines in search of green space.

At Urbanist Architecture, we saw a 65 per cent increase in enquiries for homes in the countryside compared to Q4 of 2019.

Check out this interview with Ufuk Bahar and Mark Morris about building on green belt land.
