When people ask me why I love vintage I always think of nanny Peggy’s suit that she gave to me. Looking off into the distance, smiling as she recalled the memory of her late husband purchasing it for her at the “most stylish shop in town” 40 years ago.

I think of my nana’s clutch that my mom put aside for me when she passed away because she thought I would love it (and I do).

I think of my mother’s class ring that I wear every day with the sapphire she picked out. And the big gold ring her high school boyfriend saved up his money at the fireworks stand all summer to buy for her long before I was born.

I think of the shoes that walked the woman I bought them from down the aisle on her wedding day.

They’re pieces of the lives of the women before me - artifacts. Memories.
They’re why I love vintage.
