Last week we spent a lovely morning at the Cosentino showroom ahead of Design Week, for a first look at Eclos — their new mineral surfaces which take a rather different approach to surface design.

It’s always interesting to see the latest advancements in surface technology and get a feel for them in person rather than simply looking at a sample.

Mornings like this are about staying curious; looking beyond what’s already established, discovering what’s coming next, and considering how we could incorporate into our home renovation projects.

Rooms to Relax In

What goes at the top of a house is different for every family. For some, it’s the natural place for a principal suite, creating a little separation from family life below. For this home, the loft was better suited to two bedrooms for the children, giving them a little independence while still keeping them connected to the rest of the house.

A complete redevelopment of the previously underused attic, including a new roof structure and three dormers, allowed us to make much better use of the space, improving both the ceiling heights and proportions to create two generous, light-filled rooms.

Last week Jon visited Antique Reclaimed Floors to look through flooring options for one of our West London projects.

The house already has some lovely original timber flooring, so rather than introducing something new, we’re looking to source reclaimed boards that sit naturally alongside what is already there. These will run through the hallway, living spaces, playroom and classroom, helping to create a sense of continuity across the house.

A little while back, Tom visited our joiners to see how the cinema room was coming together.

A large part of the design process is making sure every detail has been considered long before installation. Behind the finished joinery are integrated speakers, AV equipment and all the hidden systems that need to work seamlessly together.

The projector screen spans the full width of the room, and we’ve designed a bespoke four-seater sofa in cotton velvet, inspired by 1970s interiors. An integrated brass table is built into the joinery and connects with the sofa, with every element made to measure to suit the shape of the room.

Now that the project is nearing completion, we’re looking forward to sharing the finished result.

We’re pleased to have received planning permission for our latest project in Ealing.

The approved scheme includes alterations to the existing rear dormer, replacing the flat-roof design with a pitched roof, along with new dormer windows. At the front of the house, the existing garage doors will be replaced with leaded glazed doors to better complement the property.

Alongside this we’ll be undertaking a full refurbishment of the house and a complete redesign of the garden.

We’re looking forward to sharing the progress as the project develops.

The gym at Kew Villa features bespoke central joinery with sliding doors to house gym accessories, while the air conditioning and heat recovery systems are integrated overhead and built to be hidden. The kind of detail most people will never notice, which is exactly the point.

Tom is back at our specialist joinery partner today to review how the bespoke solid oak panelling for the cinema room at our Kew Villa project is beginning to take shape.

Crafted from solid oak, these panels have been carefully developed to ensure consistency across the grain and stain, while still celebrating the subtle tonal variations and natural character that make the material feel honest and authentic.

Can’t wait to show it installed soon.
