Tom is back at our specialist joinery partner today to review how the bespoke solid oak panelling for the cinema room at our Kew Villa project is beginning to take shape.

Crafted from solid oak, these panels have been carefully developed to ensure consistency across the grain and stain, while still celebrating the subtle tonal variations and natural character that make the material feel honest and authentic.

Can’t wait to show it installed soon.

Design in Detail: The West London Pantry

As rip-out gets underway on our latest West London project, we are turning our attention to the internal skin of the home.

These latest visuals offer a first look at the pantry. Designed as a hard-working yet beautiful extension of the kitchen, it serves as a practical space complete with a traditional butler sink and open low-level cupboards finished with fabric curtains. While the main kitchen cabinetry is finished in green, we’ve introduced a bold contrasting palette here to give the pantry its own distinct identity.

A considered space designed for the bustle of everyday living.

Inside the workshop: a first look at the bespoke joinery for our Kew Villa cinema room.

Tom recently spent the morning at our specialist joiners’ East London workshop to see our designs transitioning from paper to production. Our process here is intentionally hands-on; we provide the full suite of technical manufacturing drawings in-house, allowing the craftsmen to focus entirely on the ex*****on of each bespoke element.

By bridging the gap between architectural intent and the workshop floor, we’ve been able to push the joinery to a more refined level. It’s an approach that ensures the original vision is never lost in translation. We look forward to seeing these pieces arrive on-site as the fit-out begins in the coming weeks.

A New Chapter

Since founding Hamilton King in 2009, we’ve evolved from a general interior consultancy into a practice specialising in residential architecture and spatial interior design.

After 15 years of bringing thoughtfully designed homes to life, it felt like the right moment to refresh our identity to better reflect the direction we’re heading and the level of precision and detail we bring to every project.

We’re delighted to share our new website. Head to the link in our bio for the full experience.

Tom walks us through the Cinema Room at our Kew Villa project, which is now moving through second fix.

While not part of the original project plan, we spotted a mid-build opportunity to further unlock the home’s potential. The property already held a basement permit, but we secured additional planning to extend the footprint even further to create this dedicated subterranean retreat.

To ensure the room feels bright and connected to the outdoors, we’ve integrated a walkover skylight that sits flush with the rear garden, drawing natural light deep into the space. With the thermacell walling complete and the air conditioning installed, everything is progressing as planned. The next step involves installing the WISA structure, providing the framework for the bespoke oak panelling to follow.

Tom walks us through the progress on the basement light well at our Kew Villa project. Our goal here is simple: flood the gym with natural light and create a vibrant green outlook through the addition of a planting trough for crawling ferns.

We chose these ‘Alma’ mosaic tiles for the walls for their organic, leaf-like texture and the way the glossy finish catches the light. By using our trade contacts and knowledge of the market, we were able to source this design at a more affordable price point. By staying close to the build and using our trade knowledge, we’re able to save our clients significant costs without losing the design quality.

Things are taking shape on-site at our Kew Villa project as we move into the finishes; with the subterranean level becoming one of the most detailed parts of the house. These 3D visualisations show the basement has been designed for total cohesion, using a refined palette to ensure every room feels like a deliberate part of the architectural story.

From the oak-panelled cinema to the deep burgundy utility, the bespoke joinery throughout was designed in-house by Tom and is currently being crafted & installed by trusted joiners. By managing both the design and the build, we ensure these functional spaces feel as warm and considered as the rest of the home.

March Reflections: Studio & Site

It’s been a busy month at Hamilton King, balancing new architectural concepts with the final stages of our ongoing builds. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

In the Studio 🧑‍💻

We’re designing two new projects in West London, with one moving straight into construction. For one, we’ve been revisiting planning permissions to design a more sympathetic, interesting structure for a new wing, alongside a loft conversion that includes extending the staircase to open up the top floor.

On Site & In Production 🧱

Our Kew Gardens Villa is deep into the finishes stage – tiling, painting, and selecting everything from lighting to grout colours. In the basement, we’re designing the gym and preparing for the extensive joinery in the cinema room. We also visited Object Atelier to see the fluted timber and oak frames for that room coming to life.

Behind the Scenes 👭🎉

Between site visits, we’ve been working on a brand refresh and a complete rebuild of our website. We’re looking forward to sharing the new look and our updated portfolio soon.

We also took a moment to step away from our desks for a delightful team dinner in Notting Hill to celebrate Alexia’s engagement. 🎉🎉

Moving from the drawing board to the site as our project in West London prepares for the construction phase.

It is a fantastic house, and we’ve enjoyed working with the family to ensure the modernisation adds some truly functional new spaces.

These kitchen 3D visuals, designed in-house by Alexia, are still a work in progress as we continue to refine the finer design details alongside the build. It is a significant undertaking – from structural updates to a full interior fit-out – and we are looking forward to seeing it all come together with our trusted contractors.

On-site at Broomfield, where first coats of colour are bringing the project to life.

Doors, trims and walls are receiving their base coats and primer in this heritage green and warming yellow.

We’ve prioritised honest materials throughout; the beehive k***s are unlacquered brass and will naturally patina over time. It’s a purposeful mix of classical form and modern function, with solid brass fittings integrated alongside modern electrics to ensure the home is future-proofed without losing its character.

It starts from the ground up at Broomfield. 🏗️🌱

While the final planting scheme often gets the glory, the success of a garden relies on what’s happening underneath. We are currently on-site managing the installation of a critical permeable foundation –ensuring the hard landscaping remains perfectly level for decades to come.

At Hamilton King, our role in the garden at Broomfield spans the entire external scheme: from drainage and electrical to the bespoke design of the garden studio and perimeter fencing.

What is currently a muddy site will soon be a sophisticated paved border featuring integrated seating, a low-level patio, and a bespoke water feature. We look forward to collaborating with our trusted planting partners to bring the final greenery to life.
