Children rarely climb something because they’ve decided it’s time to work on their coordination. 😄

They climb because it looks fun.

But while they’re figuring out where to put their feet, reaching for the next hold and moving their body from one point to another, they’re practising all sorts of useful movement skills.

It’s one of the things Warren loves about active play after years of teaching PE:

The learning can happen without children feeling like they’re having a lesson.

They’ve spent most of the day sitting, listening, and concentrating…

…and now we’re supposed to announce that it’s time for some organised exercise. 😅

Thankfully, getting children moving doesn’t have to mean another club, another kit bag, or another journey in the car.

A bit of climbing, bouncing, chasing, cycling, racing, or a completely ridiculous garden obstacle course all gets bodies moving while still feeling like play.

And that’s rather the point.

What does your child usually head for first after school?

Thinking of building a climbing frame yourself? 🔨🌿

There’s a bit more to it than grabbing some timber and hoping for the best 😅 From planning your space and choosing the right materials, to getting the frame square, secure and ready for years of garden adventures, a little prep goes a long way.

We’ve broken the process down into simple steps in this carousel, including the bits that are easy to overlook when you’re keen to get to the slide-and-swings part.

Your garden called… it wants a swimming pool. 💦☀️

An above-ground pool can turn an ordinary summer afternoon into hours of family fun without digging up half the garden or committing to a full in-ground build.

But which type should you choose?

✅ Steel frame pools offer brilliant strength and value
✅ Resin options are lightweight and rust-resistant
✅ Hybrid pools combine durability with easier maintenance
✅ Round pools are great for family splashabouts
✅ Rectangular pools give keen swimmers a little more room

The right choice depends on your space, budget and how much pool maintenance you fancy adding to the weekly jobs list. Because nobody buys a pool dreaming of spending Sunday morning fishing soggy leaves out of it. 😅

Our complete Above Ground Pool Comparison explains the options clearly, helping you find the right fit for your family and garden.

There’s something very handy about having the playground in your own garden.

No packing everyone into the car. No trying to convince them it’s time to leave the park. And no waiting for a turn on the monkey bars.

If your kids love climbing, swinging and generally testing how far off the ground they can get, monkey bars can turn the garden into somewhere they actually want to spend time.

And they don’t need to be able to fly across them from day one.

A lot of the fun is in learning — hanging on a little longer, reaching the next bar, then suddenly managing the whole thing and doing it another 14 times just to prove they can.

If monkey bars are on the garden wish list, have a look at our outdoor play range at Happy Hideouts.

And if they’re still getting the hang of them, we’ve put together a beginner’s guide to help them along:
