If you’ve never tried latch hooking before, this is the bit nobody tells you about: how quickly it goes from confusing to calming.

From a blank grid to texture you can’t stop touching.

From “I’ll just try a few rows” to a finished rug made by quiet mindful moments.

Every design starts as a feeling rather than a finished idea.

With this rug, the starting point was colour.
Not loud, chaotic colour, but layered tones that feel lived in and warm. Shades that sit comfortably together without competing for attention.

The goal wasn’t perfection. It was balance. Something that feels playful but calm enough to live in your space long term.

Once the palette was set, the design evolved around texture.
Latch hook naturally creates depth, so we leaned into shapes that allow that texture to do the work. Areas where the pile looks fuller, moments where colour shifts subtly, and sections where the loops create gentle contrast rather than sharp definition.

By the time you reach trimming and finishing, the texture becomes the focal point. The loops soften into a surface that feels dense and tactile. It’s less about the individual stitches and more about the overall presence the piece has once finished.

And then there’s the final moment.
The one where the rug leaves the making surface and becomes part of your space. That's the moment we love.

Inside, everything is already there.⁠
The canvas. The yarn. The hook. The pattern... which means no hunting for supplies or guessing what comes next.⁠

The first few loops feel slow.⁠
A little awkward. Slightly uneven. Don't worry, it's completely normal.⁠
⁠
Then something clicks.⁠
⁠
Loop by loop, colour by colour, the cushion starts to appear. Not dramatically. Not overnight. Just small sections filling in while you watch TV, listen to podcasts, or steal a quiet moment between everything else.⁠

Some days it’s ten minutes.⁠
Some days it’s longer.⁠
Either way, progress happens.⁠
⁠
Eventually there’s a moment where you step back and realise it’s not just a project anymore.⁠
It’s a cushion.⁠
⁠
A proper, finished, handmade cushion.⁠
⁠
And suddenly it has a place in your home, not as a craft you tried once, but as something you made without needing endless time, skill or experience.⁠

Turns out there’s one loop to learn... which sounds harmless until I realised I've been sitting here for 40 minutes refusing to stop 🫠

I thought I was trying a new hobby… turns out I was starting an obsession 😤
