One of my core learnings of working with the weavers of Bengal was to use the living world around me to inspire the work I do. It’s why I always choose to draw and make the wonders I get to see and experience on an every day basis.

People call India the land of ‘jugaad’ - an Indian phrase used to describe the kind of ingenuity that enables Indians to manage the large and small challenges of everyday life. The essence of Jugaad is to improvise, and to quickly and cheaply cobble a solution together from the materials you have at hand. The Oxford Dictionary describes it as ‘a flexible approach to problem-solving that uses limited resources in an innovative way.’ But colloquially, it’s used with a negative connotation. But when you come from a country with very few resources but immense talent and skill, you can use any tool in hand to create masterpieces.

And yes, that is an iron construction rod he is using as a wood file.
