The Gunnera Collection: a collaboration with .

The Gunnera artwork from our Chelsea stand has now sold. Two more works from the collection are currently available and on display at Luke Irwin, 54 Pimlico Road, London SW1W 8LP.

A passionate naturalist, Luke approached us with the idea of creating a series of pressed Gunnera leaves harvested from the grounds of his house – something we had been longing to try for years and were eager to collaborate on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In Luke’s own words —
“These magnificent Gunnera leaves come from my garden in Wiltshire but the story is rather more wonderful than just picking monumental leaves. In early 2016 while laying an electricity cable to a barn I discovered a Roman mosaic. Historic England quickly became involved and did an extensive archaeological dig in the field 20 feet from my front door. There they discovered an enormous Roman villa which was 3 or 4 storeys tall and seemed to measure 400 metres in each dimension. This led me to design the Mosaic rug collection which was very groundbreaking in rug design and construction.

10 years later I thought that it would be interesting focus on the organic forms from this same garden and to press the gunnera leaves which I cut from beside an ancient Roman well. Gunnera is 90 million years old and is one of the oldest known plants on the planet. I love the thought that this gunnera may have been in the garden when the Romans were there almost 2,000 years ago and is yet another tangible link between the past and the present.” Luke Irwin

A few Chelsea highlights in no particular order… what a WEEK! We are completely overwhelmed by the response to our work and our stand - a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to see us, to everyone who bought artworks, cards, prints and flower presses. We had no idea what to expect from our first Chelsea Flower Show, we are exhausted… but on cloud 9.

We love what we do and feel very lucky to doing it - but we needed to hear it from you. So thank you - it was everything we needed and more.

Huge props and gratitude from myself () and to our tireless team, you are amazing:

Too many moments to mention and so much we didn’t get chance to see! But here’s a few favourites:

Floral installs:
‘Full of Beans’ gate
installation for .co &
painted details (not pictured 🙈)

Growers: & Daisy Roots () - stunning plants and install, wanted everything.

Loved students’ botanical dye installation in the pavilion - has been on our to-do list for too long…

This year, May marks a defining moment for us as we take on our first ever exhibition stand at the Chelsea Flower Show — the greatest show on earth for gardeners, botanists and anyone who loves flowers.

Over the past year we have expanded our creative boundaries and found ourselves in some unexpected and delightful places. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the pieces we’ve been working on… we excited to show you!

Come find us on Eastern Avenue, trade stand EAW450.

What a treat to have head gardener Paul Bagshaw guide us through the immaculate gardens in search of intriguing specimens to press. Swipe to see the most magnificent Rosa Banksia in full bloom - a personal highlight! Special thanks to Paul for allowing us to take a bucket of trails back to the studio for pressing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to for inviting us and to all who came to spend the day with us. Special shout to for capturing the day so beautifully.

What to press in April/May? Clematis Montana! The first flush of flowers is right now so be quick.

We are often asked where we source plants for pressing. This abundance of Clematis was gathered and pressed yesterday by Artist and long-term collaborator on all things JamJar Edit . India has been with us from the very beginning - pressing, designing, making, writing, editing and guiding our creative path.

If you don’t have a giant press like this one, you can press the smaller clusters of flowers in a small press - make sure you strip back dense areas and fan out the leaves - they are such a stunning shape. We like to press long winding stems to create larger-scale artworks, and through-frame pieces.
