A little cushion can have rather a lot of personality.

Sometimes it is the smallest details that bring an entire interior together.

From scatter cushions to lumbar and bolster designs, each of our bespoke cushions is individually handmade in our Lancashire workshops, combining techniques with an exceptional eye for detail.

Whether beautifully understated or wonderfully decorative, the choice is entirely yours. Fringes, tassels, piping, braids, embroidery, tufting, ruffles or elegant flanged edges, every element can be tailored to your chosen fabric, proportions and personal style.

Working closely with interior designers and private clients, we offer expert advice on fabrics, fillings and finishing touches, helping bring each individual design to life.

Handmade with care, designed around you, and finished beautifully.

These 19th-century Irish Phoenix chairs are full of character, with beautifully raked backs, traditional canework and elegant column-turned legs in a simulated rosewood finish.

The original caning has been carefully restored rather than replaced, preserving the craftsmanship and character of these remarkable chairs.

Reupholstered in a beautiful tactile weave by La Maison Pierre Frey bringing a fresh perspective to a classic design.

IS NEW STILL THE MOST LUXURIOUS OPTION?

There is something undeniably appealing about a piece made especially for you. But luxury doesn’t always have to begin with something new.

An antique carries something that simply can’t be manufactured: time.

The patina of timber, the character of an old repair, the proportions of another era and a history that existed long before the piece entered your home.

And age doesn’t mean the end of a piece. A well-made frame can be repaired, upholstery rebuilt and fabric reconsidered, while preserving the character that made it worth keeping in the first place.

Perhaps that is another form of luxury, knowing that what you own has a past and choosing to give it a future.

Workshop moments. There is a quiet precision to furniture made by hand.

Here, one of our cabinet makers carefully shapes the timber, refining each line and proportion by eye and by hand. It is this attention to detail you may never consciously notice that gives a beautifully made piece its character.

From cabinet making and frame making to upholstery and finishing, our furniture is made in-house by our own craftsmen in our Lancashire workshops.

Skilled hands. Fine materials. Generations of experience.

Beautifully made. Exceptionally comfortable.

Should a chair be designed to outlive its fabric?

We think so.

Fabric has a hard job. It’s touched, sat on and exposed to everyday life. Eventually it may wear, fade, or simply no longer suit the room around it.

But that shouldn’t necessarily mean replacing the chair beneath it.

A well-made frame and traditional upholstery provide something worth working with. A chair can be stripped back, repaired where needed and dressed in an entirely different fabric, giving it a new character without starting again.

Over its lifetime, a good chair may wear several different fabrics.

Perhaps upholstery should be a chapter in its story, rather than the whole story.

Why furniture should be built to last.

Well-made furniture deserves a future. A chair that remains comfortable, a frame that stays sound, and craftsmanship that allows a piece to be repaired or reupholstered as our homes and tastes change.

The fabric may be renewed. The timber may gain character. The brass may develop a gentle patina. And through it all, a favourite piece becomes part of everyday life and the stories we share.

At The Odd Chair Company, we make furniture with that future in mind. Carefully constructed, thoughtfully upholstered and made to be enjoyed for generations.
Because lasting quality gives us something worth keeping.

Beautifully made. Exceptionally comfortable.
