Welcome if you’re new here and a little update if you have been here a while….. We got planning! Our 1703 Grade II Georgian home received planning… first time!

For those of you who follow along for my clients’ projects, this one is a little closer to home.

After a year of design work, Heritage England discussions, a detailed pre application process and one carefully considered planning submission, we have been granted both Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for our Grade II listed home in London.

Dating back to 1703, this remarkable house has stood for over 300 years. We feel incredibly fortunate to be its custodians and are committed to preserving its character while carefully adapting it for modern family life.

One of the biggest reasons this application succeeded first time was because we worked proactively with the council from the outset. We sought feedback early, explored multiple design options, prepared detailed 3D visuals and genuinely involved the planning and conservation teams throughout the process.

Approved works include:

• A complete new window package

• A garden studio nestled amongst mature oak trees with an arched entrance, floor to ceiling glazing, green roof and solar panels

• A new rear extension

• Sensitive alterations to the historic garden wall using reclaimed materials where possible

• Waterproofing and restoration works to the lower ground floor, including lifting and reinstating historic cobbles and flagstones

• Reopening a historic opening to create views from the entrance through to the garden!!!

• Relocating the kitchen and improving the internal layout

• Additional bathrooms and conservation led upgrades throughout

• Relocation of a listed gate pier and new gates to improve safety while respecting the historic setting

Everything has been designed around one principle: respect the history, preserve what matters and thoughtfully prepare the house for its next chapter.

I cannot wait to share the conservation details, discoveries, craftsmanship, challenges and progress with you.

Thank you for following along. Now the real work begins!

Wow, what a day at the opening day of RHS Chelsea Members’ Day

Opening day with familiar faces, beautiful planting and so much inspiration for even my architecture! Afternoon tea at the Ranleigh Restaurant with my mum was such a lovely touch and a really special memory.

Standouts for me were the Balcony & Container Gardens, The Transient Garden and the stunning Tokonoma Garden Sanumaya no Niwa by Kazuyuki Ishihara - I loved the colour in some of these gardens .ishihara ♥️♥️The Japanese pavilion was just beautiful (I loved the connection detail to the ground!). I particularly loved the art installations throughout the show too but my favourite little part was the ‘forest flowers’ under the mature oaks.. .

Also one of my favourite facts from the day: The ‘Daffodil Man’ grows around 3000-4000 daffodils, yet only a handful are ever shown. Incredible dedication behind every bloom!

Thank you 🙏🏼 Some stand out mentions…

You can prepare the slides.
You can rehearse the talks.
But nothing prepares you for looking up mid sentence and realising the crowd just keeps growing!

That was my weekend at

Friday started on the Sustainability Stage with the brilliant Max McMurdo and Becca Garrett from CULT Furniture talking sustainability, trends and designing for longevity rather than quick aesthetics.

Saturday was honestly surreal!! Speaking alongside Kevin McCloud .mccloud1 and Max at the Build and Renovation Theatre at peak lunchtime with people standing all around the theatre trying to listen in was something I will never EVER forget. Kevin was such a gent and I still cannot quite believe he kindly invited me onto his podcast afterwards

Sunday I was back on stage with Richard Hawkes, Natasha Huq and Johnny Grey talking sustainability, longevity and designing homes for the future.

A huge thank you to sponsor Daikin and also to the incredible organisers at Media 10 for putting together such an inspiring event

There were so many brilliant stands this year from architects and interiors brands through to contractors, landscape designers, pool companies and sustainability innovators. Loved catching up with and discovering brands including .app , , , , , .ltd, , .studio , The SIP panel stands were brilliant .solar the landscape pots were beautiful and I somehow spent far too much time looking at pool covers and outdoor living details. I was also next to the loveliest will writing company all weekend which felt very Grand Designs Live somehow

And then Tuesday I went back to dismantle my stand and somehow left having bought a £20,000 kitchen for £2,000 including delivery. Straight into the utility room it goes.

Beautiful design and smart spending. Even at pack down! Win win 🥇 xx
