Competency isnt very sexy.
Its not an emotive colour palette, an elegant piece of furniture or an exquisite architectural detail all captured on film and presented for viewing pleasure.
And yet, competency is what makes all of those items, those artist expressions, feasible.
The sketch was created 18months ago, the building site snap last week.

Often I take for granted the skill set in our business 'its just what we do, no fuss'.

Noticing that in this snap of a recently completely project, everything in the image (mahogany doors aside) we designed, specificied, detailed and sourced by us.

The floors, skirting, cornice, joinery, light fittings and controls, furniture, wall and ceiling finishes, door ironmongery, painted doors and fanlight. Plenty of these are items are custom, a mantra I learnt to live by while working for the incredibly talented David Collins, bespoke design being the marker for the most capable, the most creative of design offices.

Our office continues that legacy and perhaps as the owner of the studio, I don't let the world know just how unique each and every one of our projects are. Because, they truly are.

For the most, we don't shout about it, I've always felt the creation of a unique space is for the client it belongs to, they offer me their time and concentration, by return we produce something unique to them, suited to the way they want to live.

We'll always do this, we are doing it right now, and we'll create more wonderful, unique spaces going forward.

And so begins the giant jigsaw puzzle, 30 reclaimed French beams slowly becoming 11 door linings, splits, bumps, woodworm, mortice holes, beam notches all preserved as a reminder of their former life.

Offering clients the ability to choose, rather than be directed, is incredibly important to me....'You do have to live there when we are finished' passes my lips frequently.
Perhaps we could create more stylised, more cohesive, more brand appropriate interiors working with a narrower field of choice however clients complete projects with us with spaces they enjoy, they want to be in.
The bedroom in this post is one of my most favourite examples. On a sourcing trip a snatched glance through a window at this paper was enough to cement the idea of this paper.
Time and time again the pleasure of delivering an interior to a client they love never wanes.
