Late frosts. Heatwaves. Torrential downpours.
This season has felt like weather roulette!

When your income depends on what happens in the sky, flower farming can be really nerve-racking. Each week of late we’ve held our breath, wondering what the next forecast would bring.

But somehow, the flowers have kept flowering their little hearts out. They’ve been a reminder that nature is remarkable, even as climate change makes growing increasingly unpredictable.

We’re incredibly grateful for your support. Every bouquet, bunch and posy helps support the farm and the work we do here.

Choosing British grown flowers has never been more important — by making this choice you support small growers like us, reduce air miles, and contribute to building a more resilient future.

Thank you for helping us keep going and keep growing. 💚 Buy local. Think global.

We’re at Boston Manor Farmers Market again today and it’s wonderful to be here!

The wet weather certainly hasn’t dampened our spirits — this is already the third market of the year (they’re held on the first Saturday of each month) and it’s always such a lovely community atmosphere.

There are so many brilliant stalls here, making it the perfect opportunity to pick up some weekend goodies. We’re also sharing our stall with — beer and flowers (plus a little farm produce!) is a winning combo after all!🍺💐

We’ve been especially grateful today for all the lovely repeat customers and kind comments about our flowers. One lovely gentleman even declared them “the nicest flowers he’s ever had” — and we’ve had wonderful feedback too on how long our blooms last at home.

There’s still time to pop down and see us — the market is open until 2.30pm today! We’re already looking forward to being back next month.

May has been a busy month. Find out what we’ve been up to at the farm in our latest blog!

May has been a month of highs and lows. Chilly nights defined the start of the month when I witnessed a volunteer bowing and saying hello to a magpie. I think he does this often enough for the luck…

🌸 The Horsenden Farm Flowers self-serve shed is open this weekend! 🌸

We’re open every Friday to Sunday with a beautiful selection of seasonal bunches and posies, all lovingly grown and arranged right here on the farm.

This week it’s a sweet pea extravaganza… and they smell absolutely divine!

Every purchase helps support the Friends of Horsenden charity and the running of the farm, so you’re helping keep this special place thriving while taking home something beautiful.

Pop by, treat yourself (or someone else!) this weekend and enjoy the scent of summer.

Our flower team has been growing and we thought it was time to show you a little behind the scenes…

This week we expanded our picking team and had the loveliest evening harvesting at the farm. The flowers truly outdid themselves. Barbara harvested the stocks, Kathy picked the polytunnel sweet peas, Laura was on sweet rocket, Fran gathered sweet williams, and Dagmar, Lynzi and Claudia took care of the indoor ranunculus and anemones — probably their last big pick, as they’ve been flowering their little hearts out all spring.

Meanwhile Liz was busy in the toolshed washing jam jars and prepping our hand-stamped kraft paper wraps. And my wonderful husband Ralph harvested apple mint, alliums, phacelia and sage from the kitchen garden (which has been rather neglected since the hoarding went up).

With the flowers picked in the cool of the evening, they had time to condition overnight and were ready for the arranging team on Friday morning. We had a great time making up the bunches together. Taylor () our long-term volunteer, helped guide Laura (), who started a few weeks ago — with her little assistant Oscar by her side.

This week was a truly multigenerational community effort to bring you your flowers, and it brought so much joy to my heart. Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful summer of flower-picking evenings and arranging sessions, if the weather plays ball!
