Original steel engraved antique map of Asia with hand colouring. This is a decorative mid 19th century map of Asia which was drawn and engraved by John Rapkin. The vignettes are by J. Marchant and engraved by J. B. Allen. The map was published in John Tallis & co.’s The Illustrated Atlas in c1851. The map contains views of the architectural city of Petra, Tartars on horseback, Russian peasants, walruses and various sun-birds of India and the Phillippine Isles.

Designed by Lucien Boucher and printed by Perceval of Paris around c1952, this is one of her promotional maps she designed for Air France. She has used a double hemisphere projection with each of the continents shaded in blue. To the south of the map it states “Discover the world for yourself on the wings of Air France” and just above is an inset map of European and North African Air France routes. The Air France routes are shown in red and planned new routes are shown in red dotted lines across the hemispheres. Displayed across the oceans are ships and sea monsters, Neptune appears with a sea monster in the middle of the pacific ocean and a whale appears off the east coast of Japan. The aeroplane that appears off the coast of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean is a Lockhead Constellation. The map is surrounded by people of different countries and cultures showing historic events.

Available is this monumental map of Africa, titled “Philips’ New Map of Africa” dated May 1916 by George Philip & Son, London & Liverpool. The map is a rare folding coloured engraved map within an engraved decorative border, dissected and laid on linen as published. The map measures approximately 122.5cm by 115cm. The map is coloured to show the ‘Possessions & Protectorates of European Powers’ including the British, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Belgium. The map is highly detailed and shows the existing railways thus, railways being built and projected railways, with a statement that the Cape to Cairo direct railway is suspended. There is an explanation setting out spring, sand hills, harbour, well, mountain, fertile place, cape, salt swamp and dry watercourse.

Year: February 1st 1840
Cartographer: Published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge of 59 Lincolns Inn Fields.

Steel engraved hand coloured map of New York, including Manhattan, the city of Brooklyn, Williamsburg and Jersey City. There is two views to the south of the map, one of Broadway from the Park and the other of City Hall. The map lists with corresponding numbering the public buildings.

Detailed (Scale 1:696,960 or 11 English Miles to 1 Inch) uncoloured lithograph map of Ceylon published by Edward Stanford Ltd as part of the London Atlas Series. The map is dissected and laid onto linen (20 panels). To the north west of the map is a description of Adams Bridge.

Title: Cornwall

Available is this stunning County map of Cornwall with elaborate cartouche, heraldry and vignettes from c1630. The map also has an inset of Launceston to the North West.

The county map of Cornwall is one of the
most admired and recognisable maps present in Speed’s “Theater of the Empire of Great Britaine”. The map states that it is “described by the travills of John Norden and augmented and published by John Speed”. Norden was a well known surveyor and mapmaker in the 17th century had strong connections
to the powerful Cecil family.
