Spent the morning at the London home of Italian stone and marble, and one of my favourite places to source for a bathroom that’s meant to last. There’s a reason the best bathroom design starts with the material.

A marble bathroom isn’t about how it looks on day one, it’s about the depth, the veining, and the way natural stone changes a room the moment you walk in. Get the stone right and everything else, from the brassware, the lighting, the layout, simply falls into place.

People assume interior design is all fabric and paint. It isn’t. A design is only ever as good as the team that builds it, and choosing contractors who understand craftsmanship, precision, and detail is one of the most important decisions for any project. Get this part right and everything downstream gets easier.

With this is where the Bayswater transformation really begins.

Big progress on site this week. The walls have been repainted and the lighting is finally going in. This is the stage where a home renovation stops looking like a building site and starts feeling like a home.

The moment I’d been waiting for, the chandelier in the guest bedroom. Lighting is the most underrated decision in interior design. It’s the difference between a room that looks finished and one that feels considered. Layer it properly and everything else falls into place.

Door hardware is the thing your hand touches every single day, and most interior design schemes treat it as an afterthought. On the Bayswater project I didn’t. I chose an ergonomic door handle from because a handle should feel as considered as it looks.

This is what people mean by luxury interior design: it’s not the grand gesture, it’s the small details that most people walk straight past. Get the ironmongery right and a room feels expensive before you’ve noticed why.

That face, painted, printed, and reinvented a thousand different ways since the 1950s, still stops me in my tracks every single time.
Surreal, witty, a little theatrical, endlessly collectible. Whether it’s a plate, a chair, or an entire ceiling of constellations, this is the kind of maximalism that never goes out of style.

Everyone asks where my passion came from. The honest answer is I was raised in it.

I grew up around creative parents who treated our home as something to be shaped, not just lived in. Our opinions were part of the process. Before I ever knew it was a profession, I understood that a home is something you make deliberate choices about.

That’s still how I design today. Collaborative, considered, personal to the people who’ll live there. Some things you study. This one I absorbed long before I had the words for it.

Some properties ask to be gutted. This one didn’t. The bones were right, the proportions, the structure, the way the rooms sat together. My job here wasn’t to reinvent. It was to enhance what was already quietly beautiful and understated.

So the plan was never dramatic change. It was considered restraint. Keep the structure, honour it, and let natural materials do the softening.

The best design isn’t always the loudest. Sometimes it’s knowing what to leave alone.
