The moment just before a project is finished is one of the most electric feelings in this job. You have lived with the moodboards and the material samples and the site meetings for so long that you almost forget what it felt like before it existed. Then you walk in and it is all there. The alabaster ring in the entrance hall catching the afternoon light. The Viola marble running the full length of the bath surround, every vein exactly where we hoped it would land. A family home in Hampstead, nearly ready to be handed back to the people it was made for. This is the part that never gets old.

Joinery details from the family living room at our St Johns Wood project. We suspended the shelves with delicate flat bronze metal uprights to add visual interest and inlaid the fronts with a textured vinyl wallpaper, a finish that adds depth and warmth whilst being built to last.

From the kitchen to the family room. Two spaces that sit side by side and needed to feel connected without being identical.

The joinery runs throughout both rooms and was designed as one considered scheme, the same oak, the same bronze, the same attention to proportion. But where the kitchen is light and stone-led, the family room was always going to be darker and more cosy. A space to settle into at the end of the day.

The bespoke media unit anchors the room, with textured wallpaper panel doors that echo the palette of the kitchen whilst adding texture and warmth. The navy seating, the dark oval coffee table, the layered accessories on the shelves - everything was chosen to feel personal and lived in rather than dressed.

This is one of our favourite things to get right on a project. The transition between spaces. More from this St Johns Wood project to follow.
