Framing the everyday.

Work inside, life outside. (And sometimes running right through it).

This courtyard space framing a vibrant Japanese maple tree in The Turquoise House creates a buffer between the studio and the living spaces, allowing light to filter deep into both zones. This landscaped exterior room seasonally extends the studio outwards providing a calm repose from the workspace.

Light, sky, and a quiet moment.

Within the rear pavilion of The Turquoise House, a tall central volume pulls daylight deep into the home through a large roof window above. Framed views of the garden anchor the room at eye level, while the height above creates a sense of openness that shifts throughout the day as the light moves.

A place to sit, to watch the trees, to share a moment with a dog.

Architecture at its best is often simple: space, light, and life unfolding within it.

An oldie but a goodie. The floorplan for one of our favourites - ‘The Chapel’ in North London, showing a careful use of space reflected in the details: a crescendo from a more compressed zone with smaller tiles at the entrance to a taller, brighter space with larger tiles out to the patio. Joyful yellow handrail detail from “Two houses and a studio”. Expertly crafted by Gary Staple and his team, this continuous oak handrail was custom stained to match the adjacent yellow wall. We used our favourite paint from which adds a beautiful chalky finish and set it off with unlacquered brass hardware by which will naturally age with time and develop a unique patina 💛
