KSENOI is creative collective that celebrates and supports emerging, immigrant artists.

KSENOI is an independent creative collective that celebrates and supports emerging artists. Rooted in the belief that art has the power to heal and create communities, KSENOI serves as a community for artists to express their unique identities and share their personal journeys as well as foster new connections. Though the word ksenos is often translated today as “stranger” or “foreigner,” its roots in ancient Greece tell a different story. Traditionally, ksenos meant “guest” or even “friend,” embodying the spirit of filoxenia—the Greek ethos of hospitality and generosity. KSENOI rewrites this narrative, redefining what it means to be a kseno by reconciling with the idea of otherness and bringing the warmth of filoxenia to the forefront. Through exhibitions, workshops, zines, research groups and community engagement, KSENOI delves into the deeply personal yet universal themes of identity, belonging, heritage and immigration. It offers a safe space for meaningful dialogue and connections between artists and audiences. The collective was formed through a group exhibition in London in 2023, which brought together over 400 attendees and sparked a vibrant, growing community. As KSENOI prepares for its next chapter in Athens in September 2025, it continues to expand its mission—to empower, collaborate, and build bridges through the transformative power of art.

Meet Olga Katsara, an artist based in Athens, working primarily with acrylic painting on canvas. After studying Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she developed her artistic practice through drawing, colour, and painting, with a particular interest in large-scale canvases.

Olga has been experimenting with materials such as wood alongside digital image-making and 3D animation. Her work brings together physical and digital approaches, exploring different ways of translating images and ideas across surfaces and materials.

Meet Apollon Nikolaos Tsiatsos, a self-taught illustrator based in Thessaloniki, developing his practice through Mega Lathos, creating colourful illustrations inspired by everyday objects, situations, and observations. He transforms familiar subjects through his own perspective, using humour, colour, and small visual details to give them a different character.

A central part of his practice is the use of mistakes and imperfections, which he introduces into his drawings both intentionally and by accident. Rather than correcting them, he incorporates these irregularities into the work, highlighting the character and beauty of imperfection in everyday life.

Meet Magda Petmeza, an interdisciplinary artist working across sculpture and painting and the Head of Arts at the Kindergarten of Athens College.

Her practice explores the idea of home as a symbolic concept, focusing on belonging, memory, endurance, and transformation. Her current collection of painted and ceramic goats explores, through an anthropomorphized goat, endurance, transformation and a nostalgic reminisce and search of a figurative home.

Her work has received the Stella and Sumner Cooper Award for Outstanding Works in Ceramics, the Yousuf Karsh Photography Award, and the Tufts Dean’s Research Award for Extraordinary Artistic Endeavors.

Meet Maria Panagopoulou, a Greek photographer based in Athens. Her practice focuses on portraiture and documentary photography, exploring identity, connection, intimacy and the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit.

Maria combines intention with openness, allowing each image to develop through time spent with the person she photographs and the interaction between them. Her ongoing project Between Us develops through encounters with people across Athens, with gestures, expressions, movement, and unexpected moments shaping each image.

Meet Marianna Karava, an artist and yoga teacher based in Chalkida. Her work spans artist’s books, installations, performances, and participatory projects. Rooted in contemporary dance and improvisation, her practice is shaped by attention, listening, and responsiveness.

Her projects develop through sustained engagement with place, people, materials, and the knowledge already present within a community, often through artist residencies and long-term relationships with places and communities across Greece and Europe.

Meet Dionysia Adamopoulou, a visual artist based in Athens, currently studying at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 2024 she published her first poetry collection, “Shades of Motherhood”, exploring themes of maternal identity and transformation.

Her work departs from the female body — present in some pieces, dissolved in others. Moving between painting, mixed media and monotype, materials are chosen for how they absorb, tear and resist. Forms are cut and reassembled not to restore, but to record dissolution.
