We don’t do cookie-cutter kitchens! 💚

For us, the kitchen design starts with the room. And there was so much to work with here, those arches, the natural light, the views into the garden.

The curved island picks up on the shape of the doors, so there’s a lovely connection between the architecture and the furniture. The fluting brings in texture, while keeping the green cabinetry simple gives your eye somewhere to rest.

Then there’s the terrazzo. A bit playful, yes, but it also pulls the colours together beautifully. Paired with soft cream and warm brass, the green feels right at home.

And we haven’t forgotten where the baking trays are going! 👀 Swipe for the drawer beneath the ovens and the storage tucked behind that curved door. Too useful a space to leave it all for looks.

That’s the part we love: figuring out the details that make a kitchen feel individual and work for everyday life.

For this project, we looked beyond the kitchen, considering the architecture, sightlines, materials, lighting and media wall so everything felt like part of one interior.

We decided upon dark cabinetry that feels warm rather than heavy. Statement stone without overwhelming the room, and a kitchen that feels like it genuinely belongs in the house.

This is the difference between designing a kitchen…

…and designing a space.

Agree or disagree: should your kitchen designer be thinking about the entire room? 👇

“But won’t a black kitchen make my room feel dark?”

We hear this a lot! And the answer is not necessarily.

Dark cabinetry doesn’t automatically mean a dark room. It’s all about how the space is designed around it. Natural light, the positioning of the kitchen, worktop choice, flooring, wall colours and lighting all play a part in how light moves through the room.

In this kitchen, the matt black cabinetry creates the backdrop, while the dramatic stone and abundance of daylight bring contrast and warmth into the space. Rather than feeling dark, the black actually allows the stone to become the hero.

And really, the same principle applies to any colour kitchen. A poorly considered light kitchen can still feel flat or gloomy, while a beautifully planned dark kitchen can feel incredibly bright, sophisticated and inviting.

Don’t be afraid of dark cabinetry. Design for the room, the light and the architecture, not just the colour.

Gas or induction?

It’s the question we get asked more than any other during design consultations. But underneath it sits a bigger one, does a new kitchen mean changing the way you cook?

Our answer, always: no. A kitchen should adapt to the cook, not the other way around.

Both hobs are exceptional. Both are used at the highest levels of the industry. Neither is objectively “better.” If you’ve spent years reading a flame across the pan, induction won’t make you a better cook overnight. If you already love the precision of induction, gas will feel like a step back, not forward.

What matters is honesty: what have you cooked well on? That’s almost always where the right answer lives.

Before we think about cabinetry, we’re thinking about architecture. How the space flows. Where natural light enters. How the room connects to the garden. What you see when you walk through the front door. Whether a wall should stay… or disappear completely.

Sometimes the best design decision isn’t adding something. It’s taking something away.

A well-designed room should guide you through the space. Every opening, every sightline and every proportion should feel intentional, even if you can’t explain why and working with STUDIO JAYGA ARCHITECTS on this project gave us all that and more.

The kitchen simply becomes one part of a much bigger story.

When the spatial planning is right, the entire home feels calmer, brighter and more connected 💕

Colour combination kitchens have become increasingly popular, offering the opportunity to layer complementary tones, textures and finishes to create a space that feels truly bespoke.

Rather than relying on a single finish throughout, combining contrasting materials allows different areas of the kitchen to be defined, whether that’s highlighting a statement island or creating a run of tall cabinetry. When thoughtfully balanced, a two-tone palette is personal and designed specifically for the way you live, rather than following a one-size-fits-all trend.
