MATERIALS - what I saw at .

We are incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with a near infinite choice of materials and surfaces for interior design projects, from the fantastic elements that the Earth provides to some very clever, responsible man-made materials which enable a more sustainable approach to this discipline.
Here’s my selection of stunning pieces from :

1. incredibly textured panels, raw yet so refined
2. stunningly crafted wooden wall panels, recycling discarded materials to create these works of art
3 to 8. bespoke, incredible marquetry; my wow moment of this show
9. super fun and distinctive glass and mirror creations
10. .official very clever panels which create stunning interest and features super easily
11 to 14: fabulous selection of tiles and wall coverings with some stunning wallpapers to come out soon. 🤩

A FEW HOURS IN ST TROPEZ…

We decided to spend a few hours in St Tropez before going to .
I’d never been to this little spot that is quintessentially Provençal but also completely unlike anywhere else in that region. The little town has been incredibly well preserved since it got on the map as a summer hotspot thanks to French actress Brigitte Bardot, I imagine with strong restrictions around what can be constructed. We loved the picture-perfect pastel-hued buildings with contrasting coloured shutters, the narrow paved streets and colourful shrubs, the tranquil pace of life…
But I also agree that the insane influx of money has meant that local shops have been bought out by the likes of Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and so on, mega yachts fight for space in the harbour, which does feel a tad absurd.

Nonetheless we had a lovely time and delicious lunch; we couldn’t get on hands on re-imagined tarte tropézienne but we had a delicious one from and a citron vert from which was just the right amount of tangy.

We’d like to come back slightly earlier in the season when it’s even less busy, so this is juste “à bientôt”!

BEDROOM INSPIRATION - Hotel Edition Vol.2

Mentally transporting me back to the fabulous room we had at hotel where we stayed last week.
A totally different style and vibe compared to the previous hotel, with a strong seventies aesthetic and a colour scheme inspired by the natural environment the hotel is nestled in, right by the Esterel mountain.

The considered choice of materials, the unique Mediterranean light and the never ending view onto the sea gave this place a uniquely atmospheric feeling.

We stayed in the superior sea view suite and it is totally worth the extra cost in my mind.
you totally swept us off our feet and we are already dreaming about when we can come back!

ART INSPIRATION - Sculpture Edition:

For my husband’s 40th birthday present I tracked down an artist whose pieces we’d seen in a gallery in Forcalquier 2 years ago, as we were coming to a nearby town.
It turned out that the marble sculpture of a dove carrying her egg was still available so I decided to secure it and make it a surprise for Mr L.

We went to see and his wife at his studio in Esparron where we had a great time chatting to both sculptors about their art, the pieces they’ve made, their inspiration… Cecile does a lot of the marble sculptures shown in these slides, and Lutfi has done a lot of the wooden ones.
There were so many more pieces we fell in love with, so hopefully we can increase our collection over the years!

A LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE

Our hotel is stunning, it is pretty much how I’d want an imaginary holiday home in Provence to be designed and styled.
I love the way they’ve combined the essence of the original building, an old convent dating back to 1613 with quite an austere medieval style and modern design touches that feel totally in keeping with the place and its essence. The choice of materials, furnishings, the styling is right up my street, balancing elegance, comfort and effortless style.

More on the rooms in another pos, as we’ve stayed in 2 different ones 👀

BEFORE & AFTER - the main fireplace

When we bought the house the front room had a fireplace with a very imposing look that wasn’t to our taste at all: the colours, the little pillars, the pattern… while we love open fires, this wasn’t going to stay like this!
Our plans to open up between the front room and the snug meant we were going to get rid of the chimney stack in the snug but we could potentially salvage the mantelpiece and surround which we preferred with its simpler grey Calaccatta style marble.
Fast forward 1 year and the building works had started, which meant the fun part could start: choosing how to dress this part of the front room. We wanted the possibility of adding a log burner so had the flue cleaned and measured, and I treated the beautiful Luna Sapphire tiles to be sealed and protected before they were laid down - after many attempts at designing a layout that felt organically random!
The mantelpiece and surround were restored beautifully by PJ Wright & Sons then fitted back in, et voila!

Fast forward another 2 years, the log burner isn’t there yet but I have my pretty trinkets dressing it up, and the husband’s mammoth Lego Titanic which fits perfectly, almost as if it had been made for it!
