The designs for Jean-Patrick Manchette’s Skeletons in the Closet and No Room at the Morgue are deeply evocative of classic noir, calling on black and white photography and colour to create a sense of time and place. Reminiscent of French film posters, these covers feature figures depicting hardboiled male private detective Eugène Tarpon, emphasizing the gritty, hard-edged sensibility of the genre.

But after a particularly regrettable one-night stand with her annoying friend James, Daisy starts to look around and wonder why, in a sea of intelligent, gorgeous women, all their prospects seem so hopeless.
