BEFORE / DURING / AFTER The Mews House

A look back at the transformation of the kitchen at our Mews House project.

The original kitchen was functional but felt dated, with a busy layout, dark worktops and terracotta flooring. We wanted to create something cleaner and more considered, while keeping the character and proportions of a London mews house.

We reworked the layout, introduced soft grey cabinetry with classic panelled fronts, a natural stone worktop and full-height splashback, finished with simple hardware.

From the original space, through the process, to the finished room.

I love this stage of a project, when the first ideas begin to take shape through sketches, layouts and materials.

We’re preparing to meet a new client in Kensington and have been developing the concept for their living room. We began with the layout and from there, we built the material scheme. Chalky neutrals and soft taupes are balanced with graphite, dark timber and a touch of warm brown. Woven fabrics, deeper piles and fringed details bring contrast and character to the palette.

I’m looking forward to sharing it with the client and seeing which elements they respond to. Often, the sample they instinctively reach for tells us exactly where the scheme should go next.

Not every room needs a full redesign. Sometimes a few key pieces are enough- no builders needed!

A sideboard can anchor the space, a table lamp can completely change the atmosphere and an accent chair brings in shape and texture.

These are three places I’d invest first when a room needs lifting, rather than starting again.

Swipe for a few of my current favourites. Which one would you choose?

Joinery styling is as much about the negative space as it is about what you choose to display.

Create focal points to draw the eye and remember that sometimes less is more…

What draws your eye first?

From the first material choices to the finished dining room at our Mews House.

The botanical wallcovering shaped the scheme, with pale timber, ivory upholstery, aged brass and a sculptural glass chandelier bringing everything together.

Swipe through from concept to completion.

Rethymno is one of those places where you keep stopping for the details.

Old stone walls, faded painted shutters, woven parasols, terracotta pots, bougainvillea and little courtyards hidden behind heavy timber doors. I loved that nothing felt too perfect or newly done. The beauty is in the patina, the mix of materials and the way everything has softened with age.

There’s so much to take from it from an interiors point of view. Warm, natural materials, colour used in small but confident ways, plenty of texture and a real mix of old and new. Definitely coming home with a few ideas. 🇬🇷
