The art of the archway ✨

Arches aren’t a trend piece here – they’re doing the quiet, architectural work of guiding you through each space.

In our projects, arches aren’t decoration – they’re how we shape movement, mood and light. They soften strong lines, frame key views and turn everyday thresholds into moments you actually feel as you walk through.

From bathrooms and nurseries to kitchens, hallways and living spaces, every curve here is custom to its room – scaled to the ceiling height, aligned with sightlines and layered with texture, colour and joinery so it belongs to the architecture, not just the trend cycle.

Design notes you can steal:
• Use an arch to lead the eye towards a view or focal point, not just to “pretty up” a doorway.
• Pair soft curves with tailored joinery and stone for that quiet-luxury balance.
• Repeat the radius subtly across a project (niches, shelving, openings) so it feels intentional, not theme-y.

SAVE this for your future renovation, and follow Aflux Designs for more high-end design details that make a home feel considered from the first step inside.

It’s important to actually describe what a ‘one stop shop’ is!
When we say “one stop shop”, it’s not just about convenience.
It’s about control and staying ahead of the process.

Layout, structure, costings, lighting, joinery, services — all designed and managed together, not separately. That’s what avoids the usual issues we see on London projects: delays, cost overruns, and details that don’t quite land.

We’re involved from the early layout stages, through detailed design, right into construction and final finishes.

So decisions aren’t reactive on site.
They’re already thought through.

It’s a calmer process for the client — and a better end result.

A close collaboration with — founder of a multi award-winning Belgravia clinic, known for her precise and highly bespoke approach to aesthetic medicine.

This marks our second aesthetic clinic, and it’s a space and client type we’re increasingly drawn to.

Working within the constraints of a listed building, the design was developed together — aligning clinical excellence with architectural integrity.

• Bespoke arched joinery to restore symmetry and flow
• Original character elevated through refined cornicing and detailing
• A fully bespoke reception desk as the focal point
• A soft, tonal palette to create a calm, elevated experience

Every element was carefully considered in collaboration — ensuring the space reflects both the heritage of the building and the precision of the practice.

“Designing your own bathroom is the ultimate test!!”

This is the bathroom Amit designed for his own flat — and the brief was simple: create something calm, minimal and quietly luxurious.

Large-format microcement-effect tiles by keep the space seamless and soft, while fittings in warm grey add a subtle contrast.

The real magic happens with the lighting. Different settings completely change the mood from day to night — turning the room from functional to spa-like in seconds.

Friday the 13th calls for something a little dramatic.

Rosso Levanto marble taking centre stage here.

We colour-drenched the room in a matte burgundy to blend the architecture into the background and let the stone and lighting do the talking.

Aflux pro tip 😉
Powder rooms are perfect for darker palettes — layer warm lighting and brass finishes to keep the space feeling rich rather than flat. Don’t be AFRAID to go dark and moody

Train in the dark, recover in the light!

When you’re training, you don’t need distraction. You need focus. Controlled lighting, darker walls, no visual noise. It sharpens the space and makes it feel intentional — almost like stepping into a different zone.

But the key is what it looks onto.

Instead of a blank wall, we framed a full-height window into the garden. After a hard session, your eye naturally moves towards light and greenery. It completely changes the way the room feels.

If you’re adding a home gym, think beyond equipment:
• Control the lighting.
• Reduce visual clutter.
• Create a view, even if it’s internal.
• Use contrast — dark space, light outlook.

Waiting for the call 😜😉

How to design and build your own luxury staircase 🥰🥰

We love building new staircases from scratch (see our post below)! Without being too modest 😜, this is one of our favourite designs!

1️⃣ Stair geometry first
Floor-to-floor heights, pitch, headroom — get the structure right before anything else. A measurement survey with sectional details is crucial to start building the plans onsite.

2️⃣ Build the carcass
Preparation is key. Check drawings on site, check head heights and turns.

3️⃣ Bespoke timber treads
Made to match the wood flooring and nosing throughout the house — same tone, same language and creating a flow.

4️⃣ Handrail & balustrade
Bring samples on site with metal supplier - as texture/colours always is different from pen to reality. Designed with a specialist, trial-fitted, then powder-coated in a warm black/brown to soften the metal. We intentionally matched the handrail to the black/brown bespoke spray painted doors.

5️⃣ Details that elevate
Curved lines over sharp edges. We wanted to ‘home’ the staircase for the family so these curves added softness to metal structure. The runner , which sample we confirmed on site again, brought a further layer of warmth to the family home!

One of our most exciting projects to unveil this year …a large detached town house, requiring a full makeover both inside and out!! Pretty much a new build apart from 2 brick walls 😃

As architectural designers we like to mange the entire process rather than sub contract to different third parties. We design the space, prepare the budget/costs, source the fittings and manage/sequence the build. Then it’s easier for the client to communicate directly to one source - us - throughout the project. In this renovation we wanted to go big but we also wants to break away from the boring rear extensions you see time and time again!

A few helpful tips that are key to pay attention to along the way.

1. Sort the design properly before you start
Most cost overruns come from changes mid-build. Spend the time upfront, lock the layout and key decisions early, and the build runs smoother (and cheaper).

2. Be clear on where the money’s going
Split the budget:
– construction
– finishes / glazing - higher extension, means taller glazing, means larger cost!
It keeps control and avoids that “how did it get to this?” moment halfway through.

3. Someone needs to hold the whole thing together
Design, engineers, planning, site, suppliers — if no one’s coordinating it all, things drift fast. Good project management is what turns drawings into a finished home (😉)

Guest bathrooms don’t need to be boring!

A loft conversion with a statement design, we wanted to work with the environment, that this house set up on a hill, trees in the background filled with the sound of birdsong!

Vertical glass tiles to loft the space
Warm brass to soften the green
Simple forms and all in proportion
