Despite the doom and gloom that has settled over Luton’s nightlife of late, I am delighted to reveal that at least one new venue is scheduled to open up very soon.
The venue in question that I would like to cover this month is the old Legends nightclub site, located on Luton’s Church Street. This venue has been closed for almost two years, but previously the three-tier nightclub has traded under several names including Bentleys, Bar Aqua and Genies, to name but a few. It now looks like the prominent town centre venue will shortly be gaining a new lease of life and adopting yet another name: ‘Bling’, which is scheduled to open later this month. I managed to catch up with the new owner Debbi Deb to find out a bit more about her new venue and, indeed, herself.
Debbi is a born and bred Lutonian who moved to the US some 17 years ago, spending time in Seattle Washington, Oakland and California. She has two teenage girls who were key players in formulating this new venture. Debbi moved back to the UK to resume her previous role as an HR Director, but she has always had a big passion for music and a dream to open her own music venue. Following her determination and hard work Debbi has returned back to her home here in Luton to put a bit of spice back into Luton’s entertainment circuit.
Debbi says that ‘Bling’ will have a totally exclusive atmosphere, filled with an American-style service with a pinch of flash and glamour. The venue will cater for all ages with a mixed bag of dance music over the three existing floors. ‘Bling’ will also offer a bar which will be accessible from The Mall chopping centre, where you can meet after work for a quiet drink, with an outside smoking area incorporating a Sh**ha bar.
Some eyebrows have been raised about the name of this new venue, however, Debbi has opted to keep this name for sentimental reasons and has promised not to budge! This will be the fantastic multi-scene venue that the town is crying out for. Debbi plans to open ‘Bling’ on Saturday 26 April for a VIP friends and family pre-opening event, then the general public can sample its delights starting on the early May bank holiday weekend. ‘Bling’ is currently looking for bar staff, bartenders and DJs, so, if you’re interested, drop your CV in to the venue.
