Budgeting Before You Plan or Design
Know your budget before you fall in love with a design. 💡
It sounds obvious, but skipping this step is how projects end up over budget and full of stress. We always talk budget first so your design is realistic, achievable, and built around what you genuinely have to spend.

🏡 BIGGER ISN'T BETTER

More square footage doesn't automatically mean a better home. Some of the most beautiful, functional spaces we've designed have been compact — and some of the most disappointing results we've seen have involved vast, expensive extensions that still don't quite work.

What matters is proportion. Light. Flow. How spaces connect to each other and to the garden. A well-designed 30m² extension will change how your family lives every single day. A poorly designed 50m² one will always feel like wasted space.

If you're planning an extension or renovation, start with what you actually need — and design it brilliantly.

Cozy, moody, and full of character 🌙✨

This bedroom design at Overton embraces deep, atmospheric tones paired with custom artwork beneath the vaulted roofline. Featuring a low-profile platform bed, warm ambient bedside lighting, a retro rocking chair nook, and a triangular apex window framing the night sky.

When your house needs to become your forever home… ❤️
This was a tired bungalow in a beautiful coastal setting, but our clients knew it could be so much more.
They wanted to create their forever home — somewhere that worked for them now, but also had plenty of space for friends and family to come and stay.
So we transformed the existing bungalow and added another floor, creating additional bedrooms while completely rethinking the way the house worked.
I love the fact that the finished home still belongs in its setting, but feels like a completely different property.
This is exactly why I love what I do. A good design isn’t just about making a house look better — it’s about understanding how people actually want to live in it.
More of my projects and transformations are over on .

⏳ HOW LONG DOES PLANNING PERMISSION TAKE?

Once submitted, a standard planning application typically takes 8 weeks for a decision. More complex applications — or those in sensitive areas — can take longer.

But the clock doesn't start there. Before submission, you'll need measured surveys, architectural drawings, and sometimes pre-application advice from your local authority.

When you work with us, we manage the whole process from start to finish — so you always know what stage you're at and what's coming next.

Your salon is a brand in its own right. 🏆
Before a client even sits in your chair, your space has already told them exactly what kind of experience they’re about to have. Is it saying the right things?
We recently created this 3D interior design visualisation for a proposed hair salon in Lyme Regis. The brief was simple: design a space that makes clients feel like they’ve arrived somewhere special, somewhere that reflects the skill and creativity of the people who work there.
From the flow of the layout to the lighting choices, the materials to the finishes, every detail was considered with the client experience in mind.
At Inside Out Your Space, we design for commercial spaces as well as homes. Whether you’re starting fresh, relocating, or ready to transform an existing salon, we help business owners create interiors that genuinely reflect their brand.

🎨 VOTE ON A COLOUR PALETTE

We're designing the interior colour scheme for an open-plan kitchen-dining-living extension — and we want your vote.

PALETTE A: Warm neutrals — soft whites, warm stone tones, and natural oak. Timeless, calming, and easy to live with.

PALETTE B: Bold and confident — deep navy or forest green cabinetry against white walls and warm metallic hardware. Dramatic and distinctive.

PALETTE C: Earthy and natural — terracotta accents, off-white walls, and natural materials throughout. Warm, grounded, and very of-the-moment.

Which palette would you choose for your home?

💬 Vote A, B, or C in the comments — and tell us why 👇

🏡 WHY I STARTED INSIDE OUT YOUR SPACE

People often ask me why I set up my own practice.

The honest answer? I wanted to do things differently.

After years working in the industry, I knew exactly what clients struggled with: the confusion around costs, the fear of hidden fees, the uncertainty about what they were actually getting. I wanted to build a practice that removed all of that — one where clients could focus on the exciting part of transforming their home, without the stress.

That's why Inside Out Your Space was built on a fixed-fee model from the very beginning. You know what you're paying from day one. Design changes are included. There are no surprises.

It's a simple idea — but it makes an enormous difference to the people we work with.

If you're thinking about extending or renovating, come and have a conversation. I'd love to help.
