🖤 Jackdaw Season Has Officially Landed 🖤

And just like that… the chaos begins 😅

Every year these clever, noisy little characters start appearing, usually after overheating in their nests and quite literally tumbling out into the world before they’re fully ready.

Most of the time their parents are absolutely brilliant and continue caring for them on the ground. Jackdaws are fiercely devoted parents and highly intelligent birds. But when the babies are very young, weak, dehydrated, or fall into unsafe places, sometimes they get left behind and need help fast.

This is only the beginning too… and honestly, it already feels like this season is going to be one for the history books.

We are not even halfway through the year and we are already approaching 300 intakes 😳

That number is beyond comprehension for a small volunteer run rescue. The feeds, medication, cleaning, laundry, soft release aviaries, transport runs, live food, endless messages… it never stops. We will almost certainly smash through our usual 500 bird yearly limit at this rate.

Still… when you look at little faces like this, exhausted and confused after falling from the nest, you just crack on and keep going ❤️

Please keep an eye out during the warmer weather:
🐦 Check the ground before mowing
🐦 Keep dogs and cats away from grounded fledglings
🐦 Pop shallow water out during heatwaves 🐦 If you are unsure, always ask before picking babies up

The next few months are going to be absolute carnage here 😂 but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

A massive thank you to Louisa for the MEGA sized nests 😍

Absolutely perfect for some of our larger babies who could quite honestly wear most of our normal nests as tiny little hats 😂

These are going to be so useful during the madness of baby season and were such a lovely surprise for the postie to arrive with this morning ❤️

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the beautiful generous souls who have been sending items from our Amazon wish list lately.

Sadly a lot of the parcels arrived without gift notes, so we have no idea who to thank personally, but please know every single item is genuinely appreciated and immediately put to use.

It might seem like “just a nest,” “just tissues,” “just food,” or “just cleaning supplies” but these things keep this rescue functioning day in and day out during one of the busiest seasons we’ve ever had.

We are almost at 300 intakes already this year 😳 so your kindness truly does make a difference.
