🕊️ HOME SWEET HOME FOR ONE VERY LUCKY LADY!

This beautiful white dove arrived from our wonderful vets at Lynwood Vets in Wareham after a rather nasty encounter with a sparrowhawk.

She had an enormous hole around the shoulder of her wing, packed with pus, damaged tissue and feathers. Not a pretty sight!

With antibiotics, pain relief and regular wound care, we slowly got her back on track.

Now, something interesting about birds... unlike us, their pus is thick and cheese-like rather than runny. It can form a solid plug of dead cells, bacteria and debris deep inside a wound. These plugs sometimes need careful removal, as simply cleaning the surface won't do the job.

After a few days, we finally managed to remove one revolting great plug of yuk! Honestly, the things that make us happy here! 😂

From then on, her wound healed beautifully and just two weeks after arriving, she was ready to go home!

Home was her original flock around Rivo's Hub Sandford. We rang ahead to check they were happy before randomly turning up and launching a dove into their car park! 😂

And what a lovely release! She was clearly delighted to be back in familiar surroundings. ❤️

Another little life patched up and back where she belongs.
