Happy New Year everyone!

I did a little colouring (as you do!) and made a postcode map of everywhere in the UK that I posted to last year - will probably do the same this year. There was a sale to Italy and to Switzerland, and some enquiries from Germany and France too but international postage is currently a bit of a farce, so that's on hold for the time being...

Anyways, here is what I have planned this year:

1. I'm continuing my everlasting battle to change this page's name from "Glenn's Antiques, Collectables & Curiosities" to "Glenn's Antiques & Vintage". You would be amazed at how difficult that is to do! Been trying for about 2 months now

2. I plan to be a little more adult, but still hopefully have some fun. Time to get a business bank account. It's not making enough for tax but it may be on the horizon, so I need to start thinking about getting properly registered

3. Continue moving everything that remains on my old website onto my new one. It's quite a process and progress has dropped off over Christmas, but getting back on it soon. I'm also staying far, far away from AI for descriptions. Yuck!

For everything I have I am:
• Looking for damage / faults / functionality
• Weighing it
• Measuring it (if appropriate, mainly crockery)
• Seeing what kind of box it would be most suitable for
• IF it's a larger or unusual item that will have custom postage information, I'm mostly packaging it up then and there so I don't have to worry later on
• Setting up a new item page on my new website, categorising them, adding postage information, researching the item and filling in information fields. For instance, all the fields on this rather nice box camera: www.glennsantiques.co.uk/shop/p/02/061/11
• Hiding the item on my old website once done

In terms of progress, I am nearing the end of weighing and measuring everything and maybe ½ way through moving items across to my new site. Then I need to package up the larger and bulkier items as if they were being posted to get postage info up and on the new website. I might then clean up some jewellery with a new ultrasonic cleaner and work on some improved photos for some things. Lots to still do!

4. Get a whole lot better at putting this endeavour out there for the world to see. www.GlennsAntiques.co.uk - go check it out :)
Apologies that the categories and sub-categories appear as a very long list on a mobile phone, I'd like them to become drop downs but don't know if I can. TBA

5. Really not confident about this one but maybe making some videos. I have a couple that I'd like to do, although some without witnesses. For instance: I have a 1950s cake decorating set with instructions on how to decorate a 3-tier wedding cake. Something I've never done before and could be quite fun. Plus I'm an awful baker. No witnesses = no judgement and ample time to clean up and hide evidence

6. Take my old website offline - there are still a fair amount of items on there

So yeah... it's been an interesting year and I'm sure the next will also have some good times ahead. I've made mistakes and errors but we're all human and it's all about how you handle each situation. I don't have any more TV appearances planned this year but who knows?

A collection of encaustic tiles leaves Jo and JB speechless, Glen hopes to find a fortune with his metal detector, and swimming teacher Lynne treats the dealers to a workout.

While going through some cameras I stumbled across one with some spent film.

The camera was made between 1955 - 1955 using 120 Film, so could have photos from anytime since then.

My question is:
Does anyone in or near Sutton-on-Sea or Mablethorpe have a photo lab / darkroom?

I'll reach out to one or two people I know nearby, and then maybe the local photography club here.

(I do have an ex who works in a photo lab but sending it there probably isn't the greatest idea...)

Could have anything on that film roll, and depending on what's on there, could spend some time trying to find the correct owner of the photos

Hi all!

I'm awful at posting, I know, sorry! Plus this may be a little long.

I'm planning a bit of a re-brand with an adjusted name, a new, easier to use website, logo & theme, and hopefully an improved social media presence, maybe showing unusual things I come across and learn.

Been doing a little preparation over the past week and a half, and will be designing the new website starting next week. Don't know when it'll go live just yet, but will be running both my current site (www.glennsantiqueshop.co.uk) and whatever my new one will be in unison for a while.

With the new site, you should be able to more efficiently search for what you're looking for, and most importantly, be aware of postage costs before making a purchase or enquiring. Plus there are a few perks to the change on my end, even after a lot of preparation work and making a rather large mess.

On a side note that's nothing to do with the rebrand: I will no longer be doing international sales as the list of complications I keep coming across with them are obscene!

Think that's about everything

While I probably wouldn't call it a constructive use of time, I've spent a lot of time trying to improve one particular area of my shop - the hunt for particular Matchbox cars (i know my range isn't the greatest at this moment in time).

I've created a search tool in my shop's blog (https://www.glennsantiqueshop.co.uk/post/matchbox-1-75-site-search-tool) for the Matchbox Lesney 1-75 series and grouped together my Matchbox & Corgi Toys to make them both easier to access and expand on, and to help with future setup/take downs of tabletop sales.

Just about everything in my shop has a physical price tag attached too! Not just the cars.

Now to work on my other 2 ongoing projects as well as the job search for something in this area 😅

Today I had a little stall in the Meridale Hall in Mablethorpe and met some of the locals.

I sold a few bits and heard plenty of stories from some customers that came back to them whilst browsing my wares.

It's a shame the next one there isn't until September, but what will be will be!

The other day I went with my folks to look at antique shops in Horncastle.

Some shops don't have price tags on things but this one left me bewildered. There were so many things outside slowly being destroyed to the elements. You walk across pathways of breakage - would be great for someone who does mosaics though.

I managed to save a couple of bits, but there could be anything buried in there!

Don't worry - and not to criticise a shop, but the items in my shop aren't stored like this 😅
