During all my research into the world of wool the term wool waste began to pop up. It can take many forms but the one that most interested me was ‘ wool selvedge’ , this is the excess fabric edge cut from finished textiles, It produces a lovely soft, warm and squishy rug perfect for anywhere in the house. I always have scraps of material left over when I make my fabric rugs. So in a quest to become zero waste I am experimenting with these cute wreathes, they come in small and medium sizes.

So as I mentioned in a previous post I found the world of wool, and now I’m hooked!

Wool has many good properties such as:

Eco friendly, sustainable
Biodegradable
Hypoallergenic (dust mites don’t like)
Flame resistant ( will smoulder rather than ignite)
Dirt repellant
Pets love! (Fleas hate)

I mainly buy raw fleeces, process, spin and weave them myself, but I also buy carded wool and mill waste.

And this is how my journey started when I read these words.
“Did you know the UK generates approximately 1.45 million tons of textile waste per year?
less than 1% is recycled back into new products, so the majority just ends up in household general waste”🤯
And the Rag Ruggery was born.

All change! Over the last year I've wrapped up my terrarium business and am now focusing on my new found love for weaving!

I started by using recycled materials, then after hearing about the plight of farmers throwing and burning beautiful sheep fleeces. I now process, spin and weave lovely wool rugs from local farms. I also incorporate carded mill waste into my products.
