🌿 Our family trail is still going strong at Cliveden

It’s been wonderful seeing so many children racing along the paths, spotting clues, and throwing themselves into the adventure with that brilliant mix of curiosity and imagination. The trail has brought the gardens to life in the best possible way — with laughter, muddy knees, and proud little explorers leading the way.

There’s still time to join in. The trail runs until 12 April, so gather the family, embrace the fresh air, and come make a day of it.

We can’t wait to see more young adventurers out discovering the estate.

🌿 Spring conservation at Cliveden: the Fountain of Love awakens

Every spring, Cliveden’s teams of specialists and volunteers come together to prepare the Fountain of Love—Thomas Waldo Story’s magnificent 1897 creation—for the season ahead.

Our conservators take meticulous care of the sienna marble shell, repairing fine cracks and ensuring the sculpture remains structurally sound for years to come. At the same time, volunteers roll up their sleeves to clear the basin of winter algae, revealing the beautiful gradient of blue tesserae beneath.

Once the sleeping‑bag‑style winter covers are lifted from the figures, the fountain is refilled and the whole space is transformed once again. It becomes one of the estate’s most striking viewpoints, ready to be discovered as you wander the grounds.

💧 Craftsmanship, care, and community—working together to protect Cliveden’s stories.

🌿 Clocks Spring Forward Tomorrow 🌿

Tomorrow marks the start of British Summer Time, when the clocks move forward and the evenings begin to lengthen. As daylight extends across the estate, Cliveden’s gardens, woodlands and riverside paths take on a renewed sense of space and calm.

We look forward to welcoming visitors as we step into this brighter season and embrace the first signs of spring across Cliveden.

From Wednesday 1 April, the Chapel at Cliveden reopens for a new season ✨
Tucked away on the western side of the Parterre, this unassuming domed building overlooking the river holds a spectacular surprise inside. Also known as the Octagon Temple, the Chapel began life in 1735 as a tea-room for Lord Orkney, designed by architect Giacomo Leoni. Guests would stroll the cliff-top paths before pausing in the ‘Prospect Room’ to take tea and admire the view.

In 1897, William Waldorf Astor** transformed the space into a richly decorated private chapel. Today, visitors can marvel at its inlaid polished stone floor, stained-glass windows and vibrant glass mosaics that shimmer in the afternoon light.

🕰 Open 1 April – 31 October 2026
Afternoons: 1.30pm–3.30pm
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
(subject to volunteer availability and weather conditions)

There’s no need to book or collect a timed ticket — simply pop in during your visit. Our friendly volunteers will be on hand to share the building’s fascinating history.

Please note: Access is via outdoor steps with a handrail, which may be slippery when wet. Assistance dogs only are permitted inside. The Chapel may occasionally close for conservation or volunteer reasons, so do check with the Visitor Information Centre on arrival.

Will you be stepping inside this hidden gem on your next visit?

🌸 Blossom Watch at Cliveden 🌸

Spring has arrived, and with it comes one of the most magical moments in the gardens — blossom season. Across Cliveden, delicate clouds of pink and white are beginning to unfurl, and we’d love you to enjoy every moment of it.

As you wander through the estate, look out for the striking Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’, greeting visitors with its soft pink blossom and emerging bronze leaves. You’ll spot one on the walk from the overflow car park and another overlooking the water by the maze in the Water Garden — a favourite stop for bees and photographers alike.

Near the Conservatory Café, the much loved Prunus ‘Shirotae’ — the beautiful ‘Mount Fuji Cherry’ — is preparing to drape its branches in honey scented, snow white blossom. It’s one of the most photographed trees on the estate, and it’s easy to see why.

And don’t miss the elegant Prunus ‘Tai Haku’, the ‘Great White Cherry’, found just inside the Water Garden’s bamboo gates. With its large, dazzling white flowers and remarkable history — once thought extinct in Japan until rediscovered in a Sussex garden — it’s a true springtime showstopper. Over the coming years, these trees will form a breathtaking canopy of blossom.

📸 Share your blossom moments with us
If you’re visiting this spring, we’d love to see your photos. Tag us in your blossom shots and help us celebrate the beauty of Cliveden in bloom.
Let’s make this a Blossom Watch to remember. 🌿✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for day at Cliveden on Friday. It was a pleasure to work with as part of our national Dogs Welcome programme with , helping to raise awareness of the Dogs in Yellow campaign and the importance of giving space to dogs who may feel anxious in busy environments.

Cliveden welcomes dog walkers throughout the year, and events like this help us better understand the needs of the many visitors who enjoy our outdoor spaces. We were grateful for the chance to meet so many supportive owners, share information about the campaign, and see visitors enjoying a relaxed, self guided walk across the estate.

Thank you again to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a positive and welcoming experience for all.
