I would like to share what I was creating during the Lockdown period in Malvern, Worcestershire England.
I have a massive collection of recycled buttons and beads I have amassed over many years, that I keep in my shed (The Krafty Kabin!).
I was Facetiming my two grandsons whilst in my Kabin at the start of Lockdown. They asked me if I would try to make a giraffe out of the buttons and beads. George the Giraffe was 'born' on March the 24th. He proved to be a great success with them, and they then began requesting a different animal to show them every morning over Facetime.
So… I decided to create the Lockdown Zoo.
The animals are being released!
I was busy creating each day, and as my skills and techniques improved, the zoo soon became home to many different exotic species! Every one is unique, just like us... but if someone had a favourite that is no longer available (once it's been released it's gone!) I will create a slightly different version of the same species.
When Lockdown began to ease off, I decided to continue making animals but now they would be released from the zoo, because we all now know what it is like to be 'locked in', and how much we missed our freedom appreciated again being able to socialise with our friends and families.
I am now looking for new homes for my animals, and, if you decide to purchase one of them, I do hope that they can be a positive reminder of a rather negative time, and make you smile.
Please look after the animals and treat them with care, they are not toys, so as with real animals, please don't let your children play with them!
With best wishes from Julie Thomas (Lockdown Zoo Creator and Keeper, who is always 'Full of Bright Ideas!)
