'Our Power, Our Planet'
It was this week, this year it was centered around collective action and local community.
Here at Design@studio17, we think it should be am earth day all day everyday, so we don't mind being a little late, particularly as we aren't huge fans of jumping on a trend either.
The Earth Day website shares that despite policy uncertainty, environmental progress is real, resilient & ongoing, & its true, & right now, the resilience part is needed more than ever. This week as I washed out recycling, it felt a little hopeless as the world drops bombs. But desite feeling despair, I continued with the washing, as I believe, that both personally and professionally, we all have a part to play. And whilst it feels monumental at times, there are some small switches we can make that will make a big difference.
A super easy one is switching to as a search engine. Every search contributes to seeds for trees, and they plant them where needed most. Over 250 million trees have been planted, and you can be part of it for free.
Another easy switch is moving away from supermarkets when it comes to buying products for household & personal care. is a very personal recommendation, our founder Sorcha has been using them since 2020 (& saved 1367 plastic bottles). We love them so much that when you get your kitchen or bathroom designed with us, we get you started on our favourite products, so we help make the switch. & naturally, from a designer POV, gorgeous bottles are much easier on the eye than lots of branded plastic bottles.
As a collective, we really can make a difference, shared that we are just 3% away from the number of people that can influence change. Together we can influence change, where we spend our money, can do good.

Earth day is an all day, everyday option only in our world, & whilst we aren't yet perfect, we certainly are striving to be.
