Carpet Cleaning is a Must!!

Are you always falling ill with a cough or cold or do you just often feel under the weather? Very few people consider it, but there is a chance your re-occurring illnesses may have something to do with the cleanliness of your carpets.

Many people will only professionally clean their carpets if they're selling their home or moving out of their rented home. However, the majority of these people are unaware that carpets and rugs make cosy homes for microbes and bacteria. Similarly to your furniture or fire place, your carpets can become extremely dust infested, making an appealing home for dust mites. As many people are allergic to dust mites, once these creatures die we are actually breathing in their remains and this can lead to whole host of health problems such as, skin rashes, eye and nose problems.

When something gets spilt on our carpet, the automatic response is to try and rub the stain out with a wet cloth. Although it's important not to leave stains on your carpets, using a wet cloth can make carpets extremely damp for long periods of time. Experts have found that this can significantly increase the risks of bronchial asthma, as organisms known as microbial growth are able to survive and spread in damp carpets. There are many foam and spray cleaning products available that are specifically designed to get stains out of carpets. Although many of these are excellent for removing the stain's appearance, it is still advisable to regularly use professional carpet cleaning machines in order to eliminate any germs that may have set in the carpet pile.

It is often said that cold like symptoms are caused by mould. Mould is often found on damp walls, however if your carpets are uncared for it can also spread over your floors and fill your home with harmful bacteria, making you and your family prone to many different types of sicknesses. Mould will produce a range of harmful toxins, which can wear down the body's defence and cause seriously harmful stomach infections.

Dirty carpets can also include health issues such as, athlete's foot. Many of us walk around on our carpets with no shoes or socks on, however if there are any parasitic organisms around which often lurk in dirty carpets, they can enter the body through tiny cuts in our feet causing many foot infections. These infections are also often contagious and can spread around your home and onto other people's feet.

If you have a pet dog or cat, it's possible they may bring flees into the home. Once brought into the home flees can live in carpets and survive and breed through biting humans or animals. By using a professional carpet cleaning machine, any flees or other insects living in the carpet will be eliminated.

You may think you have the cleanest home in the world or you may have recently bought brand new carpets, but the fact it is that harmful bacteria and germs can easily survive and breed on the tiniest amount of dirt. , it's an absolute necessity to clean your carpets with a professional carpet cleaning machine. for more Information Contact Manchesterrugs.com on reliable professionals to clean your carpets

There are reasons why 70 percent of homeowners put carpet in their homes. Carpet feels and looks good. However, over time, carpet can begin to show signs of wear. Perhaps the traffic areas begin to look crushed or flattened, or you’ve recently moved your furniture around and there are indentations in the carpet. Are those “dents” permanent? What can be done to preserve carpet’s nap or pile?
What is nap or pile? “Nap” or “pile” are basically the terms used to describe the type and density of the carpet fibers used to create the texture on rugs and carpets. Popular choices are cut, looped, patterned loop, or cut and looped. CRI offers a Texture Retention Rating Scale that compares several types of carpet pile and rates them by the degree to which their appearance and surface changes over time.
A number of things can be done to keep the pile standing at attention. Installing carpet with a higher resilience in heavily traveled areas can help. For better appearance and longer carpet life, small rugs can be used to reduce the amount of direct traffic on the carpet – the rugs take the abuse, not the carpet. Although some change will eventually occur in the texture of your carpet, reducing the wear paths in high-traffic spots and in front of furniture will slow this change.
Crushing is the loss of pile thickness because of foot traffic. Crushing is not considered a manufacturing defect unless it is specifically cited in the manufacturer’s warranty. Regular vacuuming will help reduce crushing that results from traffic. Some carpet cleaning professionals also periodically use a “pile lifter” before as well as a “grooming rake” after extraction cleaning carpet.
What about the depressions or indentations left after moving furniture around? Due to the heavy weight of some furniture, and depending on the type of carpet, some depressions may be permanent. Use of furniture gliders or cups under the legs of the heavy pieces can help minimize the indentations; or move your furniture a few inches backward or sideways from time to time so that the weight is not concentrated in one place. To remedy depressions, work the carpet pile back into place with your fingertips or the edge of a spoon, then, dampen the area and heat it with a hair dryer, working the fibers with your fingers or a spoon.
The article continues to point out that a number of things can be done to keep the pile standing at attention. Installing carpet with a higher resilience in heavily traveled areas can help. For better appearance and longer carpet life, small rugs can be used to reduce the amount of direct traffic on the carpet — the rugs take the abuse, not the carpet. Although some change will eventually occur in the texture of your carpet, reducing the wear paths in high-traffic spots and in front of furniture will slow this change.

You’ve decided on buying new carpet, but you want to shop smart. You already know how carpet is made and the difference between carpet styles, but what else is there to know before you buy?
Let’s face it. You get what you pay for. If you want your carpet to have a great pile density and tighter twist construction which leads to improved durability, then you’re going to want to go with a higher quality and more expensive product. New carpet adds value to any home, so it’s an investment worth making.
While it is true that all carpets look alike, carpets that have the same price may perform differently. Carpet performance is dependent upon the type of fiber used to construct the carpet, the density of construction and the style of construction.
Here are some buying carpet tips to give you the upper hand on what will soon be under your feet!
Carpet Seams
Unless your room is narrower than 15 feet, you’re going to have seams. Most carpet comes in widths of 12 feet and 15 feet — and on occasion, 13 feet. The degree of visibility of your seams depends on the texture and color you choose, as well as the lighting and furniture placement in your room.
Bending
When you carpet your stairs, its backing may show on the bends. And if it’s a looped carpet, it can snag — especially at the seams or transitions.
Nap (Pile Shading)
A carpet’s nap runs in a single direction, making pile reversal or the shading you see from a vacuum trail, completely normal for most cut pile styles. If you’re not a fan of this, window treatments and furniture placement can minimize the effect.
Color
Carpet covers a large part of any room, so it’s vital that you consider some basic rules when selecting its color. First off, know that once your carpet is installed, it’s going to look lighter in color than the sample you saw in the store. Don’t ask us why, that’s just the way it is — kinda like losing a sock in the dryer.
Next, recognize that color can affect the apparent size of a room. Call it a visual illusion or a trick of the light, but lighter carpet makes a room look larger and darker colors make a room look smaller and more intimate.
If you like to redecorate often or plan to move soon, go neutral. It’s much easier to imagine furniture in a room that is decorated with neutral colors.
Stains
It’s going to happen, no matter how long you hold out from sipping wine or munching on chips and salsa in your freshly carpeted room. Stain protection is an important consideration when buying carpet. Products come with various levels of protection and warranties. As the quality of a carpet increases, so does its stain protection level and warranty coverage.
Padding/Cushion
Padding or cushion is the layer of spongy material between carpet and floor. It’s the padding — not the carpet — that determines whether the carpet feels good or great under your feet.
A quality padding can help preserve a carpet’s look and can extend its life and comfort by providing tougher protection against wear and tear.
Padding is sold using quality specifications, not color specifications. The color of the sample you see in the store may not be the same color as what’s installed in your home.
In addition to your total project cost, annual cleanings are also recommended to maintain the beauty and life of your new carpet.
