Last weekend we were proud to be the prize sponsor for the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Awards ✨. Having attended and discovered many fantastic designer-makers at the fair over recent years, it was great to be able to present the Retail Showcase Award 🏆 to a very deserving and talented winner … Lynsey Walters 👏.

The award will offer Lynsey the chance to work with our buying team to create a bespoke collection for us to accompany a forthcoming exhibition The Whitworth. We are really looking forward to collaborating with her and excited to see what beautiful products she will bring to the The Whitworth Shop shelves 🙌!

‘Michaela Yearwood Dan: The Practice of Liberation’ closes this Sunday which means this week is your last chance to shop our collection inspired by this beautiful exhibition 🛍️.

Central to the collection is this richly illustrated book 📕, published to accompany Michaela Yearwood-Dan’s major exhibition , and the first monograph dedicated to the artist’s work 🖼️.

Featuring essays by poet Victoria Adukwei Bulley, art historian Indie A. Choudhury, exhibition curators Gemma Brace, Noelle Collins and Olivia Heron, alongside a conversation between Michaela Yearwood-Dan and author and curator Ekow Eshun, and exhibition photography 📷.

Take a flick through the Hyundai Translocal Series: Entangled and Woven Exhibition Catalogue 📙.

Entangled and Woven brings together eight artists and collectives from Korea and India The Whitworth and features newly commissioned works alongside historic textiles from the gallery’s collection ✨.

Spanning over 400 years of textile making 🪡🧵, the exhibition draws fascinating links between Manchester’s industrial past and the vibrant craft and making traditions that continue today (emojis).
Created to accompany the exhibition, the catalogue brings together installation photography from all three exhibition venues, alongside essays by Amy George, Boyeun Kim and Mayank Mansingh Kaul, as well as interviews with the participating artists.

Through these contributions, the book explores textiles as vessels for memory, knowledge, labour and exchange, tracing the ways in which materials and making connect people, places and histories across generations and geographical boundaries 🤍.

Featuring four beautiful designs from the Whitworth’s renowned textile collection, this set celebrates the rich variety of Indian textile traditions, from delicate floral cotton prints and intricate quilted patterns to vibrant embroidered and appliqué artworks.
