What colour is your swimming pool?

It sounds like a simple question, but for pool designers, the answer begins long before the water goes in. The surface beneath it has an enormous influence on how that water will ultimately look.

Cupira Multi takes inspiration from the tonal variation of natural North American slate, combining contrasting mineral shades within a surface that becomes particularly expressive once submerged.

Under water and changing daylight, those variations take on a completely different character. The result is water with greater visual depth, movement and nuance; rather than one flat, predictable shade. It’s something worth considering at the very beginning of a pool design.

Do you want the water to feel fresh and bright? Deep and dramatic? Natural and lagoon-like? The tile you specify can completely alter that perception.

We often talk about the colour, texture and movement of a tile when designing interiors but perhaps we should be talking more about the colour it creates when you add water.

The beauty of volcanic stone lies in its rawness; dark, mineral-rich and naturally full of character.

Volcanic takes inspiration from basalt, a rock formed through the rapid cooling of volcanic lava. Its deep Lava tone, mottled appearance and distinctive porous texture create a surface that feels elemental, architectural and wonderfully understated.

There’s something particularly compelling about using a material inspired by such a powerful natural process in an outdoor setting. Against water, planting, timber and pale stone, the darker palette creates contrast; alongside contemporary architecture, it introduces depth without competing with the surrounding design.

The collection is available in 30 × 60cm and 14.7 × 14.7cm formats, giving designers two very different ways to express the material — from a more expansive, architectural surface to the rhythm and flexibility of a smaller format.

For pool designers, the details extend beyond the tile itself. Volcanic has coordinating steps, pool edging, drainage grates and internal and external trims, allowing the surface, transitions and finishing details to feel like part of one considered design.

It's easy to imagine it around a contemporary swimming pool, across a sun terrace, through an outdoor kitchen or within a landscape where the material palette is deliberately restrained.

Sometimes outdoor spaces don't need more colour, they need depth, texture and something that feels connected to the landscape and Volcanic does exactly that.

What if a tiled floor could behave more like a rug?

Mutina Fringe explores exactly that idea.

At first glance, it’s remarkably simple: a 12.3 × 12.3cm porcelain tile, engraved with parallel lines. But rotate, repeat and combine those lines and something much more interesting begins to happen. Patterns emerge. Borders appear. Areas become defined.

Available in two complementary designs, Fringe allows designers to effectively ‘weave’ ceramic across a surface. The two can be combined to create seamless patterns or framed compositions that feel almost like rugs embedded permanently within the architecture.

We particularly like the thinking behind it for open-plan interiors.

Rather than using walls to distinguish one function from another, the floor itself can subtly signal a transition: dining becomes living, reception becomes lounge, circulation becomes destination.

Then there’s the grout; far from being something to disguise, Fringe makes it part of the design. Choose something tonal and the pattern becomes quieter and more textural; introduce contrast and suddenly the geometry comes forward.

It’s a collection that demonstrates something we find increasingly interesting in surface design:

Here’s something special about a material that can make water feel even more connected to its surroundings.

Veincut Aurora brings a refined, travertine-inspired character to outdoor spaces, with natural movement and warmth that sit beautifully alongside architecture, planting and water. At 60 × 120 cm, the larger format creates a sense of openness and continuity across terraces and pool areas.

For pool designers, it’s the details around the surface that make the difference. The collection can be paired with ceramic drainage grates and cove trims, allowing the transition between pool, terrace and surrounding areas to feel considered and cohesive rather than fragmented.

When a surface needs to perform as well as look beautiful, the C3 anti-slip porcelain provides the practical qualities needed for wet environments, with resistance to chlorine, UV and demanding weather conditions.

But ultimately, outdoor design is about more than specification.

◾How it sits against the landscape
◾How the whole space feels when you step into it

There’s something particularly captivating about a pool when the material beneath the water becomes part of the experience.

Bali takes its cues from Sukabumi stone, known for its distinctive green and blue-green tones and natural variation. Rather than simply reproducing the look of stone, the collection uses tonal movement to create that beautiful shift in water colour, from emerald to turquoise, that gives certain pools their almost otherworldly quality.

This is where it becomes interesting from a design perspective.

The 14.7 × 14.7cm format allows the surface to follow curves, steps and more complex pool geometries, while the 30 × 60cm format offers a different expression for larger areas. The collection includes Zatu and Goa colourways, with Zatu particularly noted for its rich green character.

For pool designers, the small format isn't just an aesthetic decision. Bali is porcelain stoneware designed for wet and submerged environments, with resistance to water, chemicals, frost and thermal shock.

What we love is the way it changes depending on its surroundings.

Pair it with natural stone, lush planting and timber and it feels wonderfully organic. Place it against crisp contemporary architecture and the green becomes a striking focal point. And once the water fills the space, the relationship between tile, light and movement creates something that simply isn't possible to appreciate from a sample alone.

It's a reminder that designing a pool isn't just about choosing a colour.

It's about considering how the material will interact with water, light, architecture and landscape.

And sometimes, the most beautiful part of the design is what happens beneath the surface.

There’s something wonderfully liberating about a tile collection that doesn’t dictate what the finished surface should look like.

Eccentrico Quadra gives designers the pieces and leaves the composition up to you.

At its heart is a beautifully simple 20.5 × 20.5cm square, but within that format is an entire language of colour and geometry. Six base shades move from soft Ghiaccio and sandy neutrals through Terracotta, Ardesia and the wonderfully deep blue of Prussia, accompanied by twelve graphic patterns designed to be mixed, matched and reinterpreted. That’s where Quadra becomes interesting.

A pattern can become a border. A collection of motifs can create the effect of a ceramic rug. Contrasting colours can bring energy to a hospitality space, while a more restrained tonal combination can add just enough rhythm to a bathroom, kitchen or residential interior.

There’s a nod to traditional encaustic and decorative tiles, but it doesn’t feel nostalgic. The geometry, colours and matt porcelain surface bring the idea firmly into contemporary interiors.

For us, it’s the kind of collection that gets better the longer you play with it.

Some collections begin with a colour palette, whilst others begin with a feeling; Terrae begins with the earth itself.

Inspired by clay shaped over centuries by water and wind, Terrae captures the quiet beauty of natural landscapes in a collection that feels both timeless and contemporary. Its gently textured porcelain surface recalls wet clay, with subtle movement and depth that invite you to look a little closer.

The palette is deliberately understated. Soft limestone whites, warm desert sands, earthy clay tones and deep volcanic blacks sit alongside expressive decorative finishes inspired by cracked, sun-baked ground and luminous metallic accents. Together, they create interiors with warmth, authenticity and character rather than decoration for decoration's sake.

The compact 7×14 cm format encourages creativity. Whether installed in a traditional brick bond, stacked vertically, herringbone or more experimental layouts, Terrae proves that small-format tiles still have enormous architectural presence.

What we particularly admire is the balance between craftsmanship and innovation. Made from porcelain stoneware containing 47% recycled material, Terrae demonstrates that thoughtful design and responsible manufacturing can comfortably exist side by side.

For interior designers creating homes, boutique hotels, wellness spaces or hospitality projects, Terrae is a reminder that the most memorable interiors often draw their inspiration from nature itself.
